Happy Birthday StarCraft!

It does not seem like it, but its been a full decade since the release of StarCraft.

I am sure we are all aware of the first time we played StarCraft, our first SCV rush, the first time you won a game, and the first time you lost a game. Over the years we have all spent countless hours on training our micro and macro to be the best we can. Well it has been 10 years now, Blizzard executives Sam Didier, Chris Sigaty, Dustin Browder and Frank Pearce sat down with IGN for a little interview.

At least as good as WarCraft

When Sam and Frank were asked what the main concerns were when they were making StarCraft they said that they were not really worried about it being fun. They were playing the game internally and they knew it was fun, but would it be accepted by the community? Well after 10 years and nearly 10 million copies sold we think the game speaks for it self here.
It's not the art that's keeping the game going. But the gameplay is super fun, everyone loves to play it. It's simple to play, but if you want to be a bad ass, it also has that component of the game.
-Sam Didier on StarCrafts longevity

IGN: That's kind of the story about StarCraft: It's like the national game of Korea. Do you have theories about how that came about?
Chris Sigaty: There is a lot of theories about it, and the one that I hear that seems to make sense is: right place, right time. Korea being in a recession, the game being available for the public to play--being a great game and well balanced--and these game rooms popping up all across Seoul. And it sort of building up along with the economy at the time, and StarCraft just being that ally well-balanced competitive game, the nature of the Korean community being competitive, all those actors combining into this weird, cool crazy phenomenon.

Thanks StarCraft!

StarCraft is where GosuGamers got its start, we have expanded to WarCraft and DotA now but we ill always remember our roots. Many thanks to all the good people at Blizzard for giving us the best game ever! Its been a short ten years filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, and everything else. Heres to the best game ever and another ten years!
