As if having 10 million subscribers to one of the most successful games ever created was not enough, Blizzard is looking for new ways to improve and aims to capitalize in our pockets. Using a cellphone of course.
The inquisitive writers over at BlizzPlanet.com have uncovered an interesting find that relates to the job postings by Blizzard regarding Mobile technology, BATTLECHAT.
As always the job postings by Blizzard receive great attention as they are the first clue to any puzzle behind current and future Blizzard projects. Several of these postings from nearly 10 months ago were aimed towards recruiting persons knowledgeable in the Mobile industry. Postings for positions such as Mobile UI Designer, Mobile Software Engineer and Mobile Lead Software Engineer were made. Lo and behold, months later a patent is filed and it is one small step for Blizzard and a giant grab for our cellphones.

It is unclear so far as to what BattleChat will mean for the Blizzard community. Early speculation from BlizzPlanet seems to be aiming towards an application that will work along side with World of WarCraft. However, speculations are slowly turning towards an application that could also work with StarCraft II and future Blizzard projects.
Talk smack on BattleChat?
If BattleChat is integrated to work with StarCraft II or even Battle.net the possibilities could be endless. We could see mobile devices logging onto Battle.net to chat with others in clan channels, or even up to the minute tournament results sent straight on to our cellphones. This is the blooming of something that could become great, but only after the fruit has ripened can we truly tell how great it is.
Blizzard has not made any official statements yet on BattleChat so alot of speculation is still going around. As to when they will make an official statement is still unknown.
