WCG07: Stork caps off Pj, wins WCG 2007 *

KEEPS THE TRADITION ALIVE

As expected, the Korean Protoss progamer Stork has defeated Pj in the grand final. Despite PJ's win over sAviOr, Stork was too much for Pj to handle.

In a best of three grand final, Stork eliminated the Chinese Protoss player in a mirror match. For the seventh year in a row, a Korean has taken the gold medal in the World Cyber Games' StarCraft tournament.

Stork, who during this month has been ranked as the Best StarCraft gamer in the World by KeSPA, even further proved his worth of the first spot by winning the tournament. Stork ended up second in the Korean WCG qualifier, only after HwaSin who took the first spot.

Stork in Korea

Stork is not a new player at all, but his breakthrough in Korea has really been in this year. In Daum OSL he finished third after having lost to IriS in the semis and the won vs Flash in the bronze final. He also placed second in the second season of GOM TV MSL after losing 3-2 to Bisu. Currently he's in the playoffs in the new MSL season.

Post-interview with Stork

After the main finals, we managed to get some answers from Stork regarding the tournament. He explains how he believed the first game against White-Ra was the hardest because foreigners play differently, while Koreans all have a unique style, and foreigners are really different, so he didn't expect a lot of stuff. Which is what made him nervous against White-Ra. He said he wasn't very nervous on the big screen. He says he wakes up, he trains, he eats lunch, he trains, he works out, he trains.

Mini-battle report of the final games

As we await the VODs of the final games, here's a little battle report by synergis (GosuCrew).
The first game was played at Paranoid Android. This quite short pvp game started with stork being aggressive. He managed to take out few of pj probes. Pj goes robotic bay+support to make reavers, while stork masses goons and zealots. Stork attacks Pj’s base and is stopped at choke by zealots and few goons, trying to hold position for long enough for first reaver to arrive. Pj sends probes to hold goons out of his base, then newly constructed reaver starts shooting scarabs. But Stork keeps sending new units and he soon breaks into Pj’s main, takes out shttle, than reaver, than second reaver… Soon comes the “gg” from Chinese player.

The second game was played at Peaks of Baekdu. Pj started at 1, Stork at 7. Storks scout takes out 1 probe, then is taken out by zealots. The “main” part of game starts with a few minor skirmishes of zealots in the middle of a map. Then Stork attacks with all-zealot army. Pj has 4 goons and few zealots and manages to deflect the attack loosing only couple of zealots and 1 goon. Both players expand. Pj goes reavers, like in game 1. He attacks Storks expo and would have destroyed it, but Storks Dark Templar forces him to retreat, because Pj has no observer. Now Stork pushes Pj back and kills shuttle with reaver and couple of goons. Stork is making High Templars and Psi Storms while Pj pumps out new reavers and goons. Pj tries to expand, but Stork has zealots and observers checking possible expansion locations. When two armies clash, superb Storks storms kill half of Pjs army and Stork wins a major battle. From now on he presses Pj back to his base. The situation doesn’t look very good for Chinese player, although he managed to place reaver in Storks main and kill quite a few probes. Stork attacks his natural, kills whole visible army ,but due to the lack of observers, Pj’s Dark Templars manage to kill a few units. Soon more reinforcements with observer come from Storks base and Pj’s expansion is being destroyed. Chinese player types out.

Translation lied in the interview?

Update: According to our sources on the spot, Stork admitted in Korean that he tossed the games against White-Ra in the tie-breakers. However, some Korean girl told them not to translate it saying it was "Orders from Samsung". However, this information is not confirmed as of yet and we'll update if we hear more from it.
