PC Gamer magazines’ footage of Starcraft 2 shows off several more Protoss units and abilities.
The gameplay focuses on three new units and the
‘Phase Cannon’
, a new photon cannon variant with the impressive ability to reposition itself within pylon power range. The last segment also has a Reaver in the background, confirming what was hinted at in the artwork trailer. The other units are:Soul Hunter:
A very quick, light hover unit with a beam attack. It’s implied they are strong vs buildings, a group of 12-15 taking down a Terran command centre extremely quickly.
Tempest:
The new look Carrier for toss! They look and function very recognisably, with the added bonus of having hardened shields as well. They still produce interceptor-like units (about 6-8 each in the vid), and top off a huge number of flyers so far for Protoss.
Twilight Archon:
Two Archons tank a large group of Marines/Reapers and use a powerful lightning attack not dissimilar to the original Archons of old. A bunker is ‘locked down’ by a psychic barrier; however this may be a new power of the High Templar standing slightly behind the action.
