The Terran versus Terran dominator Androide decides to go Zerg against Phoenix. Played on the main stage, GosuGamers gives you a report from the match.
The second stage match featured the silver medalist of last year - Androide. He has not been very active since the last World Cyber Games, but when he mopped the floor with everyone in the Russian qualifiers we knew he was strong enough to play against the best in the grand finals. He masters the Terran race, but for this game Androide actually decided to play Zerg against Phoenix's Terran.

Androide before the match against Phoenix.
The Chinese Terran player Phoenix66 has been scoring good lately and is expected to come out as one of the top two players. Going up against Androide in the first round is a nice test to see how well the Chinese player can cope with the European steel.
StarCraft is the most difficult game to defend your title in. |
Instead of going a third hatchery with dozens of Zerglings up Androide goes for a quick Lair, wanting to tech quite early and get those Lurkers up. Phoenix decides to go with the Academy mix, and gets out a strong of units quite fast. Moving them out, they get heavily crippled though by Androide raging Zerglings guarding the exits on the map. Androide has now teched up and has a couple of Lurkers up and decides to expand once more in the south position.
After having rebuilt his army Phoenix advances on Androide. The sunken colonies at the natural expansion is not enough to stop Phoenix as he manages to burst in to the main base. They are not many enough to cause some major damage as Androide is quick in taking them down.
More action now for Androide, sending his Lurkers and Zerglings to Phoenix trying to add some more pressure. A bunker is at the ramp and Phoenix is actually defending quite well and shakes off the attack. To counter he drops Androide's main base with marines and medics. After a couple of Gauss Rifle rounds and several drones dying Phoenix moves down to the Zerg expansion at 6 o clock. This is the turning point. Androide has lots of trouble with the infantry units and had to waste lots of units to take them down.
By that time Phoenix has a natural expansion up, Siege tanks and Marines. He is in quite a comfortable position. A last desperate attack from Androide is not able to crippple Phoenix that much, and shortly thereafter Androide writes 'gg' and the game is over.
* EDIT: Androide just lost to Reason and now has a 0-2 record in his group. His next match will be against ZergRaptor.
