Rivalcade Overwatch Memorial Day Rumble announced

For Overwatch's one-year-anniversary, Rivalcade invites you to a Rumble extraordinaire.

Rivalcade has invited al of us to their anniversary celebration of Overwatch. In their Overwatch Memorial Day Rumble, 16 teams will fight for the $5,000 prizepool. Eight teams were invited directly while another eight will go through a qualifier the day before the event on Friday, 26th of May. The main event then follows on Saturday and Sunday.

The invites for the event are arguably North America’s finest, with only the last Rumble finalists Rogue and EnVyUs missing as they reside in South Korea for OGN’s APEX Season 3. Still, the tournament promises to answer the recently emerging questions about the North American pecking order. Can Cloud9 make their South Korean import work? Can Immortals and Selfless defend their spots right behind the two APEX contestants? Or will LG Evil and CLG have a say in that and follow up their strong showings from last weeks CyberPowerPC? Can the newcomers Evil Geniuses & Renegades show up, or will we even have a surprise from the Open Qualifier? Much will be settled then and there.

The last Overwatch Rumble delivered a breathtaking final between the two European turned North American top dogs.

Invited teams:

Most notably both NRG and Tempo Storm will once again have to go through the open qualifier. Whether FaZe will participate remains to be seen as they are currently split up in a mix to qualify for TakeOver 2. The finalists of the qualifier in April, CLG and Rise Nation were directly invited this time around.

Open Qualifier

  • Single Elimination (Best-of-3)
  • Top 8 qualify for the main event
  • Entire qualifier played out for seeding
  • $500 prize pool

Group stage

  • 8 invited teams + 8 Qualified teams
  • Divided into four groups of four
  • Round Robin - Best-of-3
  • Top 2 advance to the Playoffs

  • 8 teams
  • Double Elimination
  • Best-of-3 with a Best-of-5 Final

The map pool was once again shrunk to mere eight maps, namely King's Row, Numbani, Hollywood, Nepal, Lijiang, Gibraltar, Dorado and Volskaya. Expect a lot of payload maps out of these teams.

You can still sign up for the qualifier here. Last time around "you guys get paid?" made a splash by being a real trouble to both LG Evil and Selfless, losing each respective series by a score of 1-2 and just barely missing playoffs. Maybe your team can be the next pesky group to disturb the hegemony of NA Overwatch.
