Starcraft II Beta Opt-In

Hell! It's About Time! Nuff Said.

If you'd like to Sign up (or Opt-in as Blizzard calls it) into SC2 Beta, Login on Battle.net (or create an account if you don't have one), then:

Go to the "Beta Profile Settings" page in Battle.net account management to go through the new beta opt-in process. Make sure you have at least one game added to your account, otherwise it won't allow you to proceed.

During this process, you'll also have the opportunity to opt in to future betas for other Blizzard Entertainment games. Please note that even if you've opted in to our betas previously, you'll need to complete this new process and upload your current system specs to have a chance to be invited.

For more information, see the FAQ -- or create a Battle.net account to opt in now. If you have an unused beta code from BlizzCon 2008 or WWI 2008, visit this site to enter your code.

If you haven't had a chance to read the latest interview, here's some "big points": Blizzard will be picking testers from US and Canada first, then Asia and Europe. Spots are reserved for "Code owners", i.e. folk who attended WWI and Blizzcon. Selection will be partially random, obviously the goal here is to get all the possible computer specs involved in the testing process.

Good news is, there will be no NDA, Blizzard actually encourages players to make screenshots, videos and share everything they feel worthy. So if you happen to 4-pool Jaedong in your first day of testing, don't be afraid to release the vid.

Update

Shacknews is reporting, that Starcraft II Beta is due to begin this summer, apparently it was comfirmed by Blizzard president Mike Morhaime during conference call:

This summer we will be opening up external beta testing, and while we haven't announced a release date yet, this phase will also signal the final stretch [of development on the game]," said Morhaime during today's Activision Blizzard conference call.

The timing looks perfect, assuming the actual date is somewhere in June or early July, it gives Blizzard about 6 months to polish and balance out the game, releasing it right before Christmas and New Years shopping "madness". Is 5-6 months of external beta testing enough to catch all the bugs and bring balance to what probably will be "The RTS" for the next 10 years? We'll find out soon enough.
