SeleCT quits competitive SC2

After having played Starcraft 2 competitively since its first hours Kyung Hyun "SeleCT" Ryoo decided to put an end to his successful career in the prime discipline of single player esports. Ryoo's tournament winnings exceed 22,000 USD.

The 24-year-old South-Korean, currently living in Seattle, WA, made his first Starcraft steps in the open beta after high school. Ryoo quickly went on to celebrate victories in early Team Liquid open tournaments and attended his first LANs.

The biggest contribution to his prominence marked his 11-game marathon run at MLG D.C. 2010 where he ended up placing second behind Idra, after having been knocked to the losers bracket. His performances during 2010's MLG season let him become highest ranked Terran in the pro circuit and third worldwide.

In his farewell letter at team-dignitas.net, the two time Dawn of War WCG champion mentions his age as well as the inability to keep up with motivated gamers due to the lack of a competitive training environment as the main reasons for the move: "I feel that it is very hard for me to catch up without living and practicing in Korea", SeleCT writes.

This doesn't mean the overall end of his competitive gaming career just yet however, as Ryoo at the same time expresses strong interest in venturing back to the game of his first esports endeavours, Dota.

His former team AzN, comprised of US Dota high rollers Sam 'Bulba' Sosale, Michael 'Mikey' Wunsch and Björn "kuronity" Forsberg among others, counted to the best of North America, placed within the top three in many SECS cups and achieved a second place at the ESL Major Series VI three years ago.

Besides casual matchmaking with his Dota 2 colleagues at dignitas, no concrete plans on SeleCT's activities are known however.
