MPL ID Season 12: The playoffs loom with six teams remaining

MPL ID Season 12’s Regular Season has come to an end, with three teams eliminated before the Playoffs begin in two weeks.

Over the recent weekend, the Mobile Legends Professional League in Indonesia concluded its Regular Season, with a few surprises coming in during the final week of action. While all nine teams played, three of these teams were unfortunate enough to not make it through to the playoff stage.

Right from Day 1 of Week 8, we saw some big surprises, with Geek Fam ID taking down Rex Regum Qeon in a magnificent clean sweep. This gave the team a possible chance at stealing away the second-place spot from RRQ, which would have seen them directly qualify into the Upper Bracket semi-finals for the Playoffs. Unfortunately for GFID, even with three victories over the weekend, RRQ’s closer to the Regular Season saw them take down DEWA United Esports – and hold onto the second seed spot.

For AURA Fire, even with a single victory in Week 8, they would succumb to elimination for a second consecutive season. Joining them at the bottom of the table was Alter Ego, whose poor form this season saw them only come to life for one week – before they faltered again and sank to the pits of the standings. While both teams will be back for Season 13 next year, they will need to do a lot of work to solidify and finally have decent seasons once more.

The biggest surprise for the elimination section came from EVOS Legends, as they could not find the wins needed to scrape into the Playoffs. After winning over Rebellion Zion, the team needed one more victory from their next two series but were unable to find it. We would see the newcomers,  DEWA, clutch the final spot in the playoffs away from the Season 11 runners-up.

The remaining six teams will now have a two-week break before they begin their treacherous journey through the MPL ID Season 12 playoffs, which will culminate in a champion and two teams booking their spot at the M5 World Championships. RRQ, ONIC Esports, Bigetron Alpha, RBL, GFID, and DEWA will begin the playoffs of MPL ID Season 12 on October 11, while the Grand Final will take place on October 15.
