Every point matters in day two of Gold Club World Championship

Everyone is looking for 2-0 wins, as splitting the series is proving to not cut it as we get closer to the playoffs.

There were a lot of games played over the course of the day, with the table really starting to take shape, giving us an idea of what the seeding is going to be like as we head into the playoffs. At the start of the day, Ballistix and MVP Black were on top of the table, and looking to extend their lead, while Team Dignitas and Astral Authority needed to find some form and catch up to the rest of the pack.

The first four series of the day went rather quickly, being one-sided in all games except for game two of Astral Authority vs Ballistix which ended up being a 25+ minute slugfest on Sky Temple. Ballistix were still able to get the 3 points which kept them in range of MVP Black:

From there we started to see more evenly matched series, even though there were some rather one-sided games here and there:

It was a good start to the day for Team Dignitas, but as the day went on, their results started to suffer. The same could not be said for MVP Black, who continued to show dominance, only dropping the single game to eStar, and now have already secured their spot in the upper bracket.

We are also starting to see that with all the dropped games from Ballistix, they are falling behind MVP Black in the race for first place. With one more day of group play to go, every team is going to need to get 3 points from every match up if they're to give themselves the best opportunity heading into the playoff stage.

All matches will be important for seeding heading into the bracket stage, but there are a few matches to keep our eyes on:

  • Super Perfect Team vs Astral Authority: Although these two are at the bottom the table, they will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid that 8th place. Both teams have had their moments, but not enough to get wins against the stronger teams, so it will be interesting to see how they fare against each other.

  • Team Dignitas vs MVP Miracle: MVP Miracle will have a tough task in fending off two teams looking to take their top 4 spot. They will have versed eStar at the start of the day, but will still need to take on a Team Dignitas whose power level seems to fluctuate. This should be a tight middle of the table clash that could go either way.

  • Ballistix vs MVP Black: Not much more needs to be said about the history behind this match up, and how it is always a joy to watch these two go at it. Ballistix are the current World Champions, but MVP Black has shown up to this tournament looking to take the #1 spot. This could very well be a preview of the grand final.
