Unlike the previous days, the Group B decider matches featured some upsets and some close calls.
The final day of the first group stage for the Summer Championships has come to an end and we now know which teams are advancing to the Dreamhack Summer. The day, just like yesterday, was split into 3 series to determine the seeding for the future tournament.
Match 1: Please Buff Arthas (2) vs. BigGods (0)
While the Brazillian team has shown that they are not to be underestimated on Monday, they could not prove themselves worthy of advancing.
Match 2: mYinsanity (2) vs Gale Force eSports (0)
Anyone who was betting on mYi to be the Western hope and beat their Asian counterparts potentially need to rethink their choice. While mYi was definitely favoured going into this matchup, they almost lose Game 1 to the up-and-coming North American team. Game number 2 was still close, but the Germans managed to secure a 2-0 victory with some incredibly Stitches play.
Match 3: Gale Force eSports (1) vs Please Buff Arthas (2)
Potentially the most interesting series of the tournament so far, and one of the biggest upsets at that. GFE definitely went into this series as the favourite to advance to Dreamhack, but PBA was not to be underestimated. While the Americans won Game 1 relatively convincingly, PBA evened the series out in Game 2. Game 3 was an intense back-and-forth with several close calls, but just when it looks like GFE have won the series, PBA steal away the qualification with a backdoor core push that was not defended properly.
Considering the reactions on twitter, one thing is clear: if you watch any of today’s series, make it this one.
The tournament continues on Saturday, so you have some days off to catch up on the VoD’s on the official Blizzheroes twitch page if you want to.
