Top teams dominate day 1 of Summer Championship

The first day of the Heroes of the Storm Summer Championships has come to an end, and the results were as expected.

Today’s stream featured four total Bo3 series to kick off the rankings for the group stages. The matches and their results are as follows:

Group A:

Match 1: PhilippinesRenovatio I (0) vs Korea MVP Black (2)

The first series of the day. Renovatio was clearly the underdog going into the match, but they held their own in game 1, just falling short in the late game. By game 2, MVP Black turned up the heat to finish the series as dominantly as everyone was expecting. After the game, an interview showed that Black claimed to be only playing at 30% of their potential, showing that they are still confident even after their SuperLeague loss.

Match 2: Australia Negative Synergy (0) vs China X-Team (2)

X-Team stayed true to their style with an aggressively played Abathur on Battlefield of Eternity in game 1, leading to the closest core save of the day. With a one-sided game on Sky Temple, they ended up winning the series by capitalising on their opponents’ mistakes.

Group B:

Match 1: Germany mYinsanity (2) vs Taiwan PBA (0)

mYinsanity was the clear favourite going into this series and lived up to their expectations. Game 1 already featured their trademark Lunara play, and they showed PBA that Arthas does not need a buff after all in game 2. With how strong mYi looked and how confident they sounded, we are now looking forward to a potential clash between them and the Korean powerhouses.

Match 2: United States Gale Force Esports (2) vs Brazil Big Gods (1)

The closest series of the day. Big Gods took game 1 convincingly, raising questions about whether or not GFE were affected by the fact that two of their members had only arrived at the venue an hour before their series began. While game 2 still looked shaky, by game 3 you could see that the North American team had found their flow again and deserved to win the series. With enough rest, expectations for the team remain high for their upcoming series.

The action will continue tomorrow at 13:30 CEST / 4:30 AM PT with the decider matches for Group 1.
