Heroes of the Storm wins strategy game of the year at D.I.C.E awards

It was a good day to be a Heroes fan and an even better day to be Dustin Browder and his development team.

It's a Hero Brawler, not a MOBA!

A lot of people rolled their eyes when the Heroes design team would say that. Some still do, but after today it's hard not to concede that Heroes of the Storm is much more than just a MOBA. Calling it a MOBA would inaccurately reflect what Heroes of the Storm is actually about, as it implies the game has any rules or limitations it must adhere to.

Heroes was designed to push boundaries and, at the 19th annual D.I.C.E. awards, the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences took notice.

Heroes of the Storm's victory is an awesome moment in the games timeline. The game is no stranger to criticism and the design team's firm decision to stray away from traditional formula's of MOBA success has at times been bewildering. However, that mindset brought us Heroes like Cho'Gall and Greymane and Battlegrounds like Towers of Doom. You aren't going to find gameplay experiences similar anywhere else.

Live at the event was Dustin Browder and, as usual, he was all smiles. His enthusiam for Heroes is seemingly limitless, despite  an almost exhausting levels transparency, answering criticism, questions, complaints, and who knows what else on Twitter.

His latest tweet says it all:

Games in contention for Strategy / Simulation game of the year:

Cities: Skylines
Fallout Shelter
Heroes of the Storm
Grey Goo
Kerbal Space Program
