Cold hearted killers

Last week we took at the HotsLogs.com sitewide stats for support classes.  This week we take a look at the numbers behind the cold hearted killers of Heroes of the Storm, the assassins.

Jaina leads all assassins in winrate at 53.1% across all leagues, while coming in as the 4th highest ranked hero overall.  Behind the ice is the fire, as Kael'Thas is the 2nd best assasin and 6th overall with a 52.1% winrate.  Zeratul comes in third among assassins and 9th overall with a 50.6% winrate, followed closely by Kerrigan at 12th overall with a 49.6% winrate across all leagues.

As always, we begin to see the real differences in skill levels and hero difficulty as we examine Bronze vs Master leagues.  In Bronze leagues, Jaina and Kael'Thas are still the top two assassins, ranked 7th and 11th overall, with respective winrates of 46.1% and 44.9%.  In Master leagues, Jaina still sits on the icy throne, as the 4th ranked overall hero and top assassin holding a winrate of 72.2%.  However, Illidan is the 2nd highest rated assassin, 6th overall, with a winrate of 61.7%.  Zeratul and Kael'Thas round out the assassins at 8th and 9th overall with winrates of 59.9% and 59.4%.

While Jaina dominates assassin winrates across the board, the higher skill assassins, Illidan and Zeratul, make a strong showing in Master league.  It seems Blizzard had it right when they tagged the blind blade butcher as 'very hard.'  It will be interesting to see what effects the incoming patch from Blizzard has on Illidan's winrate.

On our mini-map: compLexity Gaming

It is no secret, well perhaps it was a secret, but it isn't about to be any longer, that we here at Nexus Weekly are huge fans of compLexity Gaming.  Is it because of their great play?  Maybe.  Is it because we like the players on the team?  In part, perhaps, it's complicated.  The reason we really love compLexity, is that they are the team formerly known as B A R R E L B O Y S, and nothing is more fun than watching a match and screaming "BARREL BOYS!" at the top of your lungs.  Fandom is important, even in eSports.

We're featuring Complexity Gaming HOTS in On Our Mini-Map, because we want to motivate the Barrel Boys to get over their one hurdle, their achilles heel, their arch-nemsis, if you will: Cloud 9 Maelstrom. CompLexity Gaming (Rank #18), has won six out of their last eight matches. In the Go4Heroes Americas Cup #27, they defeated Team Banana Bread (Rank #83), Team Blaze (Rank #197), and Goon Squad Inc (Rank #45).  In the North America Open, B A R R E L B O Y S, excuse me, compLexity Gaming, defeated Cloud 9 Vortex (Rank #20), before being sent down to the losers bracket by Cloud 9 Maelstrom (Rank #4).  They then fought their way though the losers bracket, defeating The PLEYZ (Rank #143), and Cloud 9 Vortex (Rank #20) again, before being defeated (again!), by Cloud 9 Maelstrom, and knocked out of the tournament.

Team compLexity is poised for great things, great barrel shaped things, if they can only find a way to defeat Cloud 9 Maelstrom.  We here at Nexus Weekly just want to say, we believe in you boys!

Skins vs skins: Comic Con cosplays

Comic Con is coming up and we know the nerds will show up in droves.  While the Comic Con doesn't start until July 9th, we wanted to give you uncreative types some ideas for cosplay.  Any jerk with a sewing kit and access to foam rubber can cosplay as one character, but a true geek at heart would cosplay as a character cosplaying is another character. In the words of the immortal Kirk Lazarus, "I know who I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!"

Crossing genres is popular, or so I'm told.  Kerrigan is cosplaying as the Bride of Frankenstein, which makes perfect sense, as she is the unholy amalgomation of a bunch of different torn and tortured parts.  Stitches is the strong silent type, well, not wholly silent, but he has an extremely limited vocabulary, and we bet he is constatly breathing heavy, which makes him the perfect for to dress as Jason Vorhes.  He also really does look like Vorhes unmasked.  Click on this picture of an unmasked Jason if you never want to sleep again.

Like Trekkies crashing a renaissance faire, nerds love to pretend that they are warriors in the wrong time and space.  Johanna is dressed like someone out of the movie 300, (give me a break, I failed history), and we truly believe, having played against her, that she could defeat the entire Persian army by herself.  Murky is cosplaying as an adorable little space marine (watch out for those banelings, buddy!), however, he brings much more advanced weaponry to the fight: Fish don't have to reload.

Storm stream of the week

This week on Storm Stream of the Week we feature So1dier of team Tempo Storm. Tempo Storm obliterated the competition on the road to Blizzcon NA; lets take a look into the mind of the man himself. Reading this might make you as good as the players on Tempo Storm.

Do you have a favorite Hero?

Abathur is my favorite hero, and has been since the very beginning, even throughout all the changes. His kit is so much different than any hero I've seen in any game and is really fun to use. You can be anywhere on the map at anytime so you always have to be thinking of what your next move is going to be.

Favorite Class?

Definitely assassins. In almost every game I've played I always lean towards the dps role. I like to have the ability to control the game by killing other players.

Is there anything you think is overpowered/underpowered in the game?

Anything can be overpowered if you have enough of a level advantage, so I'd say the most contributing factor that can lead to this is overpowered (Promote), and might need a slight adjustment. The most underpowered is probably Sylvanas' heroic ability Possession. It will never contribute enough to make up for the loss of Wailing Arrow and it's more on par with a standard talent than a heroic one.

How would you describe your stream in one sentence?

My stream is a more relaxed stream with high level gameplay.
