There’s no stopping Ukraine in the Global Games

The country is the first to three victories in the international league.

Ukraine is on an absolute roll in the Hearthstone Global Games. The power roster of Aleksandr “Kolento” Malsh, Artem “DrHippi” Kravets, Yevgeniy “Neirea” Shumilin and Mykola “NickChipper” Velichko is up to 3-0 in series and 9-2 in games in one of the toughest groups in the tournament.

Ukraine jumped ahead in the rankings after a clean sweep over Croatia on April 19 to follow their victory over tournament favorites Germany on opening week and were looking forward to keep their momentum against the Philippines yesterday. The SEA gang itself has had mixed results, falling to the Czech Republic and then sweeping Germany, but ultimately couldn’t stand in Ukraine’s way. For a second week in a row, World Championship runner-up DrHippi didn’t even get to play as his team-mates swept the field.

Ukraine’s neighbors from Russia also remain undefeated in HGG, though they didn’t take the easy victory many expected. Headlined by two HCT champions, Russia had to go through all five games against Australia before retaining their lead in Group C. On paper, Russia remains the most accomplished and heavily favored roster in the tournament and will have the chance to catch-up with Ukraine’s 3-0 on May 16 when they face Austria.

Italy, Malaysia and Netherlands also recorded victories yesterday with Italy now in the lead in Group E. Before the HGG weeks is over, a couple more highlight matches are scheduled to happen, including USA vs. ROU (May 3, 21:00 CET) and KOR vs. HKG (May 5, 04:00 CET).
