Trinity Series day one results: Luminosity, compLexity prevail in Trinity Series semis

A classic Europe vs. North America clash will determine the first grand finalist of the league.

Even though they beat each of the other three teams in the playoffs during the group stage, Virtus.pro recorded a first round loss to the star team of Luminosity last night. The remaining for teams are now in a battle to split the lion’s share of the $150,000 prize pool and after a 6-4 win the trio of Keaton “Chakki” Gil, Frank “Fr0zen” Zhang and Paul “Zalae” Nemeth is one step closer.

Luminosity got an important momentum early on in the series, timely shutting down two of Virtus.pro’s signature classes in Warlock and Priest, but VP’s resilience was able to push the Bo11 series into the final couple of games. A Kun/Malygos Druid vs. Midrange Shaman battle in game nine became without a doubt the highlight of the series with LG’s Malfurion surviving on 5HP against VP’s [card]jade lightning[/card] burst and top decking [card]aviana[/card] to save their lives.

Going into the winners bracket final, Luminosity will play compLexity for a spot in the grand finals. The Europeans took a critical victory against the mixed team of Team Liquid after the white-and-blue jerseys skipped the Warrior ban in favor of Druid and ended up punished in the last two games of the eleven-game series.

LG’s and coL’s previous encounter during the group stage went the full distance and ultimately into coL’s favor so this is a good time for LG to tie the score and move deeper into the bracket. In the battle for survival between TL and VP, the horseheads will have to redeem themselves from the crushing 2-6 loss to Virtus.pro in week three if they want to stay in the tournament for another day.
