World champion Pavel with another major gold at GameGune

The comeback kid is on a hot streak.

After securing the highest prize pool ever given in Hearthstone at Blizzcon, going home with $250,000, Pavel “Pavel” Beltukov was ready to prove himself once more at this weekend’s GameGune, Spain’s €22,500 LAN invitational. For the new champion, this was to be the first tournament after his triumph in Anaheim and eyes were fixed on the Millenium player to see if he coulddo it again.

Pavel had a rough start in the group stage and after a loss to Frederik “Hoej” Nielsen he had to fight back from the losers bracket, through two five-game series against Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy and once again Hoej in the decider to secure a playoffs spot. Once in the top eight, Pavel’s run went much smoother, each series being more one-sided than the last, culminating in a final 3-0 win over local underdog “Mariodela” for the title.

With this victory, Pavel climbs to the top of the GosuRankings, accomplishing two things at once: ending Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert’s 14-week #1 streak and repeating the highest ranking peak of 1,450, thus far exclusively held by G2’s Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk.
