Reynad wraps up the first batch of Legendary Series finalists

ESL Legendary Series coverage hub

The Legendary Series match days came to an end two days ago and with that we see the first four players to fly to Burbank at the start of June.

The second season of the ESL Legendary Series tournament started in March and for the past two months players have been qualifying through the Legendary match days, held every two weeks.

The format was a simple one – six qualified players and two invites battle through group stages and elimination brackets for one spot at the grand finals. And so far, the invited players have had great success. Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy and Aleksandr “Kolento” Malsh took the first two issues of the tournament and it was only at Cup #3 that a no-name advanced. Santiago “Kabi” Rodriguez took a sweeping 3-0 victory over Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen and became the first up-and-coming player with a seed for the grand finals.

The trend of invited players doing well returned this Sunday as rivals Andrey “Reynad” Yanyuk and Jason “Amaz” Chan clashed in the fourth and final match day finals. It took the Tempo Storm owner five games to trump Amaz before joining the finals line-up.

Several more qualifiers will be held before the Grand Finals player pool is filled up. Four redemption qualifiers (14-17 May) will feature every non-winner of the Legendary Series match days and will seed the best players onwards. Finally, there will be fully open “Last Chance” event (23-24 May), giving away the final eight spots.

The grand finals itself will be held June 5-8th at the ESL studio in Burbank, California. Format details are still unclear but what we know already is the prize pool – $25,000 and 230 HWC points in total.
