$23,000 on the line for the Chinese qualifiers of World Cyber Arena 2015

World Cyber Arena 2015 announced. Big names and big money on the line.

World Cyber Arena is arguably one of the largest Hearthstone tournaments ever. In 2014, WCA held a massive tournament in China. Boasting a sizeable prize pool and top players from all over the world. Big names from both East and West took home serious money. Gaara and RDU took 3rd and 4th respectively, and agreed to split their earning 50/50, each bringing about $14,000 home. TiddlerCelestial took second, with a reward of $48,750 falling just short of the first prize of $97,500.

Some controversy surrounded last year’s event as the organizer, Yinchuan International Game Investment Co.Ltd, made promises of paying money out promptly, but gridlock with the Western and Chinese banks led to holdup and delays. With money finally reaching the pockets of Western gamers, however, we can now look ahead because WCA 2015 has been announced.

Here’s a short summary of what is known so far:

  • WCA will have another season in 2015.
  • No prize pool for the main event has been announced yet, but the 2014 had a $195,000 prize pool so expect big numbers
  • There will be 5 qualifiers: Chinese Pro, Global Pro, Chinese Open, Global Open, and Global Wild Card
  • 28 Qualifying players advance to the main event
  • Conquest Format
  • Main event will be held in Yinchuan, China

Some big names have already been invited to the Chine Pro Qualifier, such as TiddlerCelestial (Took 2nd last year), LiBo (Took 1st last year), MagicWind, and RunAndGun. The competition looks to be quite strong from China and we can expect a similar all-star set of invites for the Western Pro Qualifier. WCA 2015 will be this December and we’ll bring you more details on the tournament as they appear.
