Alex Garland's ambitious adaptation of Elden Ring is set to become A24's biggest film production yet.
The upcoming live-action adaptation of FromSoftware's acclaimed action RPG Elden Ring could be nearly three hours long, according to new details surrounding the highly anticipated film.
According to an exclusive report by Deadline on Tuesday (27 October), the script spans at least 180 pages, including visuals, suggesting that the film could approach the three-hour mark. However, its official runtime has yet to be confirmed.
The A24 production, written and directed by Alex Garland, has plenty of material to draw from. With the sheer scale of the Lands Between, its sprawling lore, and its formidable bosses, there's certainly enough to explore in a lengthy adaptation.
What can we expect from the Elden Ring movie?
While much of the film's plot remains under wraps, Deadline's report has revealed more details about what players can expect when Elden Ring makes its way to the big screen. Kit Connor, who was previously announced as part of the film's star-studded cast, will take on the role of the protagonist, whose journey will involve battles against fearsome creatures and dragons.
Boss battles are among Elden Ring's defining features, with players facing everything from monstrous creatures to powerful demigods and legendary dragons. Deadline did not identify which enemies will appear in the adaptation, leaving fans guessing whether familiar bosses such as Starscourge Radahn, Malenia, or Dragonlord Placidusax will make it to the big screen.
A24 has gone to considerable lengths to keep the film's story under wraps, even having staff accompany potential international buyers as they read the screenplay and withholding certain sections to prevent spoilers. However, keeping everything a secret has proven difficult, especially with filming taking place at real-world locations. Earlier this year, leaked footage and images from the film's London sets surfaced online, showing what appeared to be Queen Marika, the Dung Eater, and references to familiar locations such as Leyndell, Stormveil, and Raya Lucaria.
Meanwhile, the film's budget is estimated at between US$175 million and US$200 million, making it A24's most expensive production to date. Amazon MGM Studios has also secured pay-1 streaming rights in numerous international markets, although A24 remains responsible for financing the film. According to Deadline, filming has already wrapped, with post-production now underway alongside visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic.
The Elden Ring movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas and IMAX on 3 March, 2028.
