What do the latest Elden Ring movie leaks show?
The newest round of leaks comes from X (formerly Twitter) account @UnBoxPHD, known for sharing footage from active film sets. Among the clips circulating online is what appears to be the execution of the Dung Eater, a scene that closely mirrors the game’s opening cinematic.
“I wonder if they finally explain why his name is Dung Eater,” one of the X users, @Inq_Officio, wrote in reply to the thread. "There’re some interesting theories but no one actually knows because the game doesn’t tell us".
Additional footage also shows what looks to be Queen Marika, reportedly portrayed by Emma Laird. Combined with the Dung Eater sequence and earlier set images, the material strongly points towards the film covering events before The Shattering, the catastrophic war between Queen Marika’s offspring and her demigod step-children that left the Lands Between in ruins.
Filming locations hint at Leyndell, Stormveil, and Raya Lucaria
Earlier this week, Shortlist published a series of set photos from Greenwich Naval College in South London, where A24 is currently filming. The images showcase a medieval-inspired set design alongside visible green screens, likely intended to bring iconic elements like the Erdtree to life.
Several props spotted on location point directly to major in-game areas. A crate labelled “Leyndell Streets” suggests the Royal Capital will feature in the film, while another marked “Stormveil” hints at Godrick the Grafted’s stronghold making an appearance. Additional images include props that imply the Academy of Raya Lucaria is also being adapted.
This lines up with earlier footage captured at a separate location, which showed a game-accurate statue of Marika, reinforcing her central role in the story.
Why are there so many Elden Ring set leaks?
Some fans are concerned that more leaks are coming way before the movie comes out to theatres. But where do the leaks come from and why are there so many of them? The scale of these leaks may be tied to the filming location itself. Greenwich Naval College sits along the River Thames, just a short walk from Greenwich Station, and is typically open to the public. With parts of production taking place on public-facing streets, maintaining secrecy appears to be a challenge.
Elden Ring movie budget, cast, and production details
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elden Ring carries a budget of well over US$100 million, with around 100 days of principal photography planned. The publication describes it as A24’s “largest and most ambitious” project to date.
The film is written and directed by Alex Garland, who previously helmed Civil War. His involvement follows reports that he completed an “epic” 160-page draft, alongside 40 pages of visual material, before personally pitching the project to FromSoftware in Japan.
The confirmed cast includes:
- Kit Connor (Warfare, Heartstopper)
- Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar’s Day, This is Going to Hurt)
- Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War)
- Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag)
- Havana Rose Liu (Tuner, Bottoms)
- Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)
- Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown)
- Ruby Cruz (Bottoms, The Threesome)
- Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Margo’s Got Money Troubles)
- John Hodgkinson (Dear England, Napoleon)
- Jefferson Hall (House of the Dragon, Oppenheimer)
- Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, A Haunting in Venice)
- Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace)
The project is being developed “under the guidance” of FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, and is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin.
Garland’s connection to the source material runs deep, as he previously revealed he was on his seventh playthrough of Elden Ring, underscoring his familiarity with the game’s world and bosses.
