What to expect in Rayman Legends Retold?

As with most remakes, fans can expect a modernised version of the charming platforming adventure, rebuilt for current-generation hardware and standards.

For those unfamiliar, the original Rayman Legends is a colourful 2D platformer featuring obstacle-filled levels, monster encounters, and rescue missions. It is also popular for its four-player co-op experience. The game is the latest entry in the classic Rayman franchise and is widely regarded as the best game in the series.

Rayman Legends is a nostalgic classic, and this over-a-decade-old title is now receiving a complete ground-up remake with the announcement of Rayman Legends Retold.

“When a shadowy new villain spreads corruption through the Glade of Dreams, it’s up to Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murphy to embark on a journey across charming and magical worlds and rescue Teensies. Leap, glide, and punch your way through enemies, venture into a brand-new realm, and soar during epic dragon rides,” Ubisoft described in the PlayStation blog.

In this remake, Rayman transitions into a 3D world, with new content and expanded storytelling. Players will be able to tilt and adjust the camera, which Ubisoft says will enhance immersion and make in-game cutscenes more dynamic.

The publisher also promises a rich selection of returning levels, a mysterious new realm, and four new musical stages where players must move in sync with the soundtrack while completing challenges.

Beyond gameplay and narrative improvements, players can also expect an expanded soundtrack and significant upgrades to voice cinematics. Ubisoft has confirmed that all characters in Rayman Legends Retold will be fully voiced, a first for the franchise.

Rayman Legends Retold is now available for pre-order, priced at US$40.
