Inifinity Ward is gearing up for the next Call of Duty game and has just confirmed that a new “Modern Warfare” game is in the works. The studio confirmed this through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday (22 May):
The post also included a link to a YouTube video on the official Call of Duty channel that featured Infinity Ward’s new co-studio heads Mark Grigsby and Jack O’hara answering a series of Rapid Fire questions.
“Rumour has it that Infinity Ward is making the next Call of Duty. Is there any truth to that?” to which O’hara said yes to, adding, “We’re making the definitive Modern Warfare.”
This follows the rumours surrounding the next Call of Duty title, which surfaced earlier this month.

When is the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare coming out?
For now, there has been no official news on the release date of the said title. As Infinity Ward launches the studio's rebranding, they described their next game (which is the next Modern Warfare), to be bold, determined, relentless, and “built by a team puishing every detail, every system, every moment to the limit.”
How will Infinity Ward honour Call of Duty co-creator Vince Zampella?
According to an interview with IGN, Infinity Ward is still considering how to pay tribute to co-founder Vince Zampella following his death last December. When asked whether the studio’s 2026 Call of Duty entry would feature an “in memory of Vince Zampella” message in the credits, studio head O’Hara said the team has not made any final decisions yet. He explained that many developers at Infinity Ward knew Zampella personally, making the loss deeply emotional for the studio, and added that the team wants to approach any tribute carefully out of respect for his family. "We haven't finalized any plans for anything, at this point, mainly because a lot of us know his family and so we want to be very sensitive about what we do,” O'hara said. Zampella died in a car accident in December 2025 at the age of 55.
When will players learn more about the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game?
While there’s no official news about when more information about the game will be out, there is a strong possibility that it will be featured in the upcoming game showcases in June like the Xbox Games Showcase, PlayStation State of Play, or the 2026 Summer Game Fest.
