The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will not have fast travel.
Nintendo has released a new Ask the Developer blog post, diving into development details for its upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The blog post features series producer Eiji Aonuma, who reveals that he initially asked for fast travel points to be added to the remake to stop players from spam-rolling around the map.
However, the remake’s developers quickly realised that this ended up removing key “moments of discovery,” and thus the feature was left on the cutting room floor.

Does The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have fast travel?
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will not have fast travel, but it came pretty close. In the developer blog post, Aonuma noted that “In the original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you could get around a bit faster by spamming forward roll, so I think a lot of players spent their time doggedly rolling across Hyrule Field whenever they needed to be somewhere in a hurry [...] I thought we needed to address this in this new version.”
Aonuma then asked for the remake’s development team to add warp points in the vein of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, allowing players to teleport around the map. However, the team then realised that “we were missing out on the moments of discovery that came from stopping along the way and wondering, “Wait, what’s this?””
Ultimately, Nintendo then decided to axe the warp points, as the lack of fast travel was important “to the very structure of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.” As Aonuma noted: “So even though I was the one who proposed adding warp points, they just weren't working for me in the end, so I got the team to take them all back out again.”
This was one of many elements in the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake that Nintendo chose to leave unchanged, which brought the developers “its own set of challenges in figuring out how to present them with modern hardware. I think those were the areas where this development team’s own interpretation really came through.”
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is launching on 5 November, 2026.
