Warner Bros. Pictures originally delayed Mortal Kombat II’s release from October 2025 to May 2026, but the movie is now finally mere months away from hitting theatres. The movie distributor dropped a new look at the upcoming sequel this week, confirming that viewers will finally see the fighting tournament that was teased in the first movie.
More characters from the Mortal Kombat franchise’s fighting roster will join the sequel, including the likes of Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), Baraka (CJ Bloomfield), Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Sindel (Anna Thu Nguyen), Quan Chi (Damon Herriman), and Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford).
The first movie’s cast will also return, including Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Jax Briggs (Mehcad Brooks), Cole Young (Lewis Tan), Shang Tsung (Chin Han), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and Bi-Han/Noob Saibot (Joe Taslim).
This is certainly a cast big enough to head a mainline Mortal Kombat game’s playable roster, though some of these characters are destined to perish by the time the credits roll. The sequel centres on a deadly fighting tournament between the champions of Earthrealm and the forces of Shao Kahn, who threatens the survival of Earthrealm as a whole.
Mortal Kombat II hits theatres on 8 May, 2026.
