The Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame are still set to launch in the first half of 2026, as originally planned.
Valve has delayed its announcement of the launch details for its new line of Steam Hardware, though original plans of releasing these new products in the first half of 2026 remain unchanged. Valve shared the news in a Steam Hardware FAQ posted on Thursday (5 February), revealing that ongoing hardware supply constraints have prevented them from announcing definite launch dates and pricing for the new line of Steam Hardware at this time.
Steam Hardware price and release date reveals delayed amid memory shortages
Valve first announced last November that its new line of Steam Hardware, which includes the Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame, will be released in 2026. The release dates and prices for these new products were planned to be announced early this year, until the recent delay.
“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you've likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame),” Valve said in the blog post.
Valve reiterated that their “goal of shipping all three products in the first half of [2026]” remains unchanged, though they admitted that they have work to do before settling on definite launch dates and prices while being “mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change.”
In the meantime, Valve did clarify some details around the upcoming Steam Hardware products that many have been asking since they were first revealed.
For the Steam Frame and VR, Valve revealed that the device will have a built-in browser, it can support streaming services in a theatrical browser mode, and it can be used while wearing glasses.
The Steam Machine has the capacity to play most Steam titles at 4K 60FPS with FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). Its SSD (NVMe 2230 or 2280) and memory (DDR5 SODIMMs) have also been revealed to be both accessible and upgradeable.
Meanwhile, the Steam Controller can be used with any game, even non-Steam titles, as long as it is compatible with the Steam Overlay.
Those looking forward to the new Steam Hardware can expect more updates from Valve in the coming weeks and months. While their definite launch dates and pricing remain unknown, Valve did commit to address concerns from potential buyers, and to release deep-dives into specific features of the upcoming line of Steam Hardware.
