Kingdom Hearts IV is getting an animated series adaptation and a 2027 release window.
Square Enix popped up at Disney’s annual fan event D23 to drop a juggernaut reveal: Kingdom Hearts IV is officially launching in late 2027, marking the end of a years-long wait for fans who have been anticipating the sequel. The new game has also unveiled a crossover with Pixar’s animated film Coco, as a whole new world for Sora to explore. Additionally, Kingdom Hearts is also getting an anime adaptation.

Is Kingdom Hearts IV getting a Coco crossover?
Kingdom Hearts IV is finally inching closer to a full release, according to a new trailer released during Disney’s D23 fan event. At the event, it was revealed that the upcoming game will include a crossover with Pixar’s animated movie Coco. A trailer for the crossover included characters from the film like Miguel and Papá Héctor in a musical sequence, along with some gameplay from the Coco world.
Sora also gets a Coco-themed Keyblade and a makeover to match the world’s theme, before the trailer ends with a brief glimpse of the main story. We see Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy attempting to search for Sora. Sora, meanwhile, finds himself in a realistic urban city and sees ghosts of his former friends.
When is Kingdom Hearts IV coming out?
The trailer finally confirms a release window for Kingdom Hearts IV. Fans can expect the Square Enix sequel to launch sometime in late 2027, a whopping eight years after the launch of Kingdom Hearts III. It’s been quite a long wait for fans, but it won't be much longer before they can finally play through the continuation of Sora’s adventures.
Is Kingdom Hearts getting an anime series adaptation?
Surprisingly, Disney also confirmed a second Kingdom Hearts project in the works at D23. Kingdom Hearts is officially getting an anime series adaptation on Disney Channel and the Disney+ streaming service.
The TV series is said to be developed in partnership with the franchise creative head Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, reimagining the events of the Kingdom Hearts games in a series format. Hence, don’t expect a direct adaptation of the games.
A release date for the Kingdom Hearts anime was not announced.
