Deadlock launches "Old Gods, New Blood" update, adds six new heroes and 4v4 mode

Deadlock is getting six new heroes and a shorter 4v4 mode.

Valve has pushed a chunky new update for Deadlock, adding even more content to the third-person MOBA shooter’s ongoing beta. The update, entitled “Old Gods, New Blood,” adds six all-new heroes, revamped visual designs for the Patrons, more map changes, and a fast-paced game mode called Street Brawl.

Players will be able to vote on which two out of the new six heroes are added first, with the rest to be added on a weekly basis afterwards.

Deadlock’s six new heroes: Silver, REM, Graves, Apollo, Venator, and Celeste

Deadlock’s roster is expanding with six all-new playable heroes, though they won’t all be added to the game at once. Two heroes will be released every week on Mondays and Thursdays at 2PM PST, beginning on 26 January. However, player votes will determine which heroes get released first, and players have to earn their votes by playing the game.

Without further ado, here are the new heroes:

Silver, the werewolf and REM, the cryptid

Silver and REM from Deadlock, respectively.

Graves, the necromancer and Apollo, the fencer

Graves and Apollo from Deadlock, respectively.

Celeste, the musician and Venator, the priest

The all-new 4v4 game mode Street Brawl

For those looking for a shorter Deadlock experience, look no further. Valve has finally added a new 4v4 game mode to Deadlock entitled Street Brawl, allowing players to finally engage in faster-paced battles using the game’s existing roster. This mode comes with a few changes to Deadlock’s regular gameplay loop.

First off, the mode will allow players to battle it out in a best-of-five match, with each round taking only a couple of minutes to complete. With this faster pace, Valve has opted to also streamline the shopping system. Now, players will choose from a random set of items, adding three items to their inventory per round.

Each round will see players begin with equal resources at their disposal, discouraging farming. Enhanced or Legendary items may also appear during the match.

Completely redesigned Patrons

Deadlock’s final objectives, the Patrons, are getting a complete makeover. Each of the two Patrons now boasts an incredibly compelling visual design, a new moniker, and some lore to go with the redesign. On one end of the map, players will find the Hidden King, described as such:

“The stretching shadow of a skyscraper... a boarded-up apartment in Hell’s Kitchen... The Hidden King exists in the cracks of the city, waiting for his followers to usher him into the light.”

On the other end, players will find the Archmother, described as such:

“Glass, steel and stone... Order and power where once there was none… The Archmother has always guided the founders' hands, and now it is time for them to welcome her home.”

More changes in Deadlock’s new update

This update goes well beyond a few new heroes and Patron redesigns. Other changes include UI improvements for the HUD, in-game chat, and overall visibility, along with a revamped postgame with an MVP scoring system and match summary. The settings have also been reworked, with an FOV slider and more reticle options.

Additionally, the game’s map has received more layout changes, and two new abilities have been added. You can read more about the changes and additions in Deadlock’s “Old Gods, New Blood” update on the official website here.

Deadlock does not have an official release date yet, and the ongoing beta remains invite-only as of now.
