Valve has released a new update for Deadlock, polishing things up quite a bit.
The Deadlock beta has just gotten a big drop of new content, including the introduction of six new heroes. These heroes include vampires, goats, and bibliophiles, but it’s worth noting that Valve plans to stagger their release, rather than launching all of them at once.
These heroes will be unlocked for all players using a voting system, which takes place in the game’s all-new pre-game lobby. That’s not all, however. This meaty update also includes changes to Deadlock’s map and character select screen.
Deadlock’s six new playable heroes unveiled
Deadlock is bringing six new playable heroes to the streets of the Cursed Apple. These heroes include:
- Mina the vampire.
- Billy the demonic goat.
- Paige who can bring books to life.
- The Doorman who's always at your service.
- Victor the monster who can't be stopped.
- Drifter who terrorizes the city.
Out of all of these characters, only Mina is currently available in-game. That’s because Valve is testing out a new hero voting system that allows players to vote for the release of the next playable character after each game.
New heroes will be released every two days, with balance adjustments to follow in the days following their release. Players can earn votes by completing games, after which they can cast their votes in the Hideout.
As for Mina, Valve describes the vampiric hero as a glass cannon capable of dealing quick bursts of Spirit damage at range thanks to her passive, which is called Love Bites. Each time Love Bites is triggered, her vampiric powers become stronger for the rest of the match. That includes her ultimate ability, Nox Nostra, which unleashes a swarm of bats that hunt down and silence enemies.
The new Hideout pre-game lobby
Replacing the Dashboard UI is Deadlock’s new Hideout area, a pre-game lobby where players can hang around while waiting for matches. They can either invite other friends to their Hideout, or join their Hideouts instead. The Hideout features a practice range for players to test out abilities, which makes the legacy sandbox a tad redundant.
Collectibles can also now be viewed in the Hideout.
Map and character select screen update
With new heroes comes a need for a character select screen overhaul. To that end, Valve has given multiple heroes new visual updates, and revamped the character select screen to reflect those changes. Lighting changes and more visual improvements have also arrived in the in-game map.
Deadlock still does not have a release date.
