The future of PC gaming might be in gaming glasses.
CES 2026 has brought forth a rather surprising reveal from ROG: an all-new pair of gaming glasses that function as an on-the-go virtual gaming monitor. The ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses display a floating virtual screen when worn, supporting 240Hz gameplay at a whopping 171-inch display.
ROG’s new XREAL R1 gaming glasses: What do they do?
Have you been looking for a new gaming monitor? Perhaps you should’ve been looking for a new pair of glasses instead. The ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses offer sci-fi-like functionality, giving users a floating virtual monitor simply by putting the glasses on. The glasses themselves weigh in at just 91 grams.
The glasses also offer pretty hefty specs for a gaming monitor, with 240Hz micro-OLED FHD (1920 x 1080 resolution) functionality, a 57-degree field of view (FOV) and a 171-inch display. The device’s X1 chip also allows users to make the virtual screen larger or smaller, and farther or closer, with the press of a button.
When wearing the ROG XREAL R1, users will see a virtual screen that moves with every turn of their head, keeping the screen in the dead centre of their vision. However, they will also be able to toggle on Anchor Mode to pin the screen to a fixed location, and look away from it every once in a while.
The glasses will also adapt their virtual display’s brightness level to the lighting of your environment, and can be manually tinted, much like sunglasses. The glasses also include Sound by Bose technology for audio purposes, allowing users to listen to their media out loud. You’ll also be able to plug these glasses into handheld gaming consoles or smartphones via a wired connection (USB-C).
ROG XREAL R1’s PC and console gaming compatibility
The ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses are also bundled with a docking station called the ROG Control Dock. This dock allows users to alternate between using the glasses with their consoles, PCs, or other devices at home. As long as every device is connected to the dock, simply pressing a button on the dock will alternate which device is being paired with the glasses.
The ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses is set to launch globally in the coming months, but a firm release date and pricing details for the device have not been announced yet. The dock comes with two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port. Here are the glasses’ full specs:
