Get your wallets ready, because a bit more saving and you'll have a decent PC gaming rig in the palm of your hands.
Microsoft has officially announced the global prices for the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally handheld gaming PCs, with both models set to release on 16 October 2025. The ROG Xbox Ally X will launch at US$999.99, while the standard ROG Xbox Ally will be priced at US$599.99.
Pre-orders are now live via the Microsoft Store, ASUS eShop, and select retailers across 38 countries.
Features and functionality
Both handhelds are designed to deliver what Microsoft describes as “a distinctly Xbox experience in the palm of your hands.” They are powered by Windows 11 with an interface tailored for gaming, minimising background tasks to dedicate more performance to active play.
Key features include:
- Direct access to the Xbox full-screen experience, inspired by the Xbox console UI.
- A dedicated Xbox button for a Game Bar overlay, allowing quick navigation to the library, game management, chat, and ROG Armoury Crate SE.
- An aggregated gaming hub, combining titles from Xbox, Game Pass (where available), and PC storefronts such as Battle.net.
- Ergonomic grips designed for longer sessions, modelled on Xbox controllers.
The handhelds will also support multiple play modes:
- Native play of PC games installed directly on the device.
- Xbox Play Anywhere, giving cross-access to supported games across console, PC, and handheld.
- Remote play, enabling streaming from an Xbox console within the same home.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), providing streaming access to the Xbox library on the go.
Some GosuGamers team members tried the handheld devices at Tokyo Game Show 2025, and here are their first impressions of the ROG Xbox Ally X, along with the other games they’ve demoed so far.
Handheld Compatibility Programme
To support the launch, Microsoft is rolling out its Handheld Compatibility Programme, marking games as either Handheld Optimised or Mostly Compatible. Thousands of titles are expected to be ready for day one, helping players quickly identify games that run best on the new devices.
The ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally arrive in a crowded handheld market, joining devices such as the Steam Deck and the recently released Nintendo Switch 2.
