Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic revealed at The Game Awards 2025
The Game Awards 2025 has officially gone live, delivering multiple world premieres and updates for new and upcoming video games. One of its most shocking announcements was made at the very start of the main show: a spiritual successor to BioWare’s iconic game franchise Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is an all-new single-player action-RPG, acting as a sequel to the Knights of the Old Republic series in all but name. The game is being developed by Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Lucasfilm is also producing remakes of the first two Knights of the Old Republic games, if recent reports are to be believed.
Game director Casey Hudson is set to return to helm the new project, having also directed games in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series and the Mass Effect trilogy. Here’s what Arcanaut Studios said of the game, taken from a YouTube video description:
Developed by Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a new single-player narrative-driven action RPG and spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Led by Casey Hudson, Game director of the original Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy, the team of veteran game developers and storytellers at Arcanaut Studios is crafting an epic interactive adventure across a galaxy on the brink of rebirth where every decision shapes your path towards light or darkness.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic does not have a release date yet.
