Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake launches next March
Koei Tecmo’s second remake of the seminal horror game Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is officially launching in March next year. The game will feature modernised gameplay mechanics, revamped visuals, and remastered audio. However, its story has been largely left intact.
The game follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who stumble upon an abandoned village while playing in a forest nearby Minakami. Unfortunately, they soon discover that the forest is teeming with evil spirits, and the enigmatic Camera Obscura is their only hope for survival.
The game’s spirits are an ever-present threat, damaging Mio’s Spirit Power upon attack. By holding her sister Mayu’s hand, however, she can restore both Health and Spirit Power. This is an all-new mechanic exclusive to the remake, along with a few new functions for the Camera Obscura like focusing, zooming, and switching filters.
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake launches on 12 March, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
