Waze adds Sonic the Hedgehog voice in new Sega collaboration

Traffic may be slow, but your new Waze co-pilot definitely isn’t.

Sonic the Hedgehog has raced into Waze, giving drivers the option to swap the app’s standard navigation voice for the Fastest Thing Alive.

The update adds Sonic to Waze’s Sidekick feature, which lets users pick themed voices to navigate their journey. Once activated, Sonic takes over navigation duties with high-energy lines like “let’s roll, keep your eyes on the road, never know when a loop-de-loop or spike trap will be in the way.”

Drivers can also add some flair to their map by switching their car icon to the Speedster Lightning from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and choosing a Sonic avatar visible to other Waze users.

Waze x Sonic collab is part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary celebrations

The collaboration is part of Sonic Team’s Racing Around the World campaign, celebrating the series’ upcoming 35th anniversary. The initiative brings together global partners connected by speed and racing culture.

Earlier this year, McLaren Racing joined the campaign through a multi-year partnership designed to blend motorsport and gaming, featuring joint events and themed integrations. Waze is the latest to join the line-up, bringing Sonic’s trademark energy to everyday drives.

Meanwhile, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds had just launched last month and continues to be a hit with players.

GosuGamers had the chance to play and review the game. In our words, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds succeeds because it keeps the core racing simple, fun, and accessible, while giving players endless reasons to come back through customisation and challenges.”

With Sonic now giving directions on Waze, drivers can count on every trip feeling like a visit to the Green Hill Zone.
