Battlefield 6 hits massive Steam milestone with over 747,000 concurrent players

More than 700,000 soldiers have reported for duty, and there’s no ceasefire in sight.

Battlefield 6 is off to a roaring start, quickly becoming one of the biggest launches of the year. According to SteamDB, the first-person shooter reached an all-time peak of 747,440 concurrent players on Friday, 10 October, less than a day after launch.

This places Battlefield 6 at 14th place on Steam’s list of top games by peak concurrent players, just behind Baldur’s Gate 3 with 875,343.

The reception has been largely positive, with a “Mostly Positive” rating and 77% of reviews recommending the game. Many fans have praised it as “the best Battlefield in years,” with others citing its stability and balanced hardware demands. However, others noted that it “plays more like a Battlefield: COD Edition,” saying that it feels different from past Battlefield entries.

EA compensates Battlefield 6 players after launch day lockout on the EA App

Not everything went smoothly during launch. Some Battlefield 6 players who purchased the game through the EA App were temporarily locked out at release, despite owning it. A “purchase to play” bug mistakenly prompted users to buy non-existent DLC to access multiplayer and campaign modes.

Battlefield lead and Titanfall creator Vince Zampella called the issue “honestly embarrassing.” EA resolved it within hours and apologised “with perks.”

“Today, we experienced an outage on the EA App that prevented some of our players who pre-ordered Battlefield 6 from accessing the game,” EA wrote in an in-game message reposted to Reddit. “We know this can be frustrating, so we wanted to offer an apology… with perks.”

All impacted players will receive 12 Hardware and 12 Career 60-Minute Boosters in their in-game inboxes, plus a Season Battle Pass. Phantom Edition owners will also get full access to Season 2’s Battle Pass. These are pretty generous rewards, as the XP Boosters alone can boost player progression quite a bit in these early days of launch.

"The fix has been rolled out, but we aren't done. Anyone on the EA app who has been impacted will receive 12 Hardware and 12 Career 60-Minute Boosters, which should be arriving in impacted players' in-game inbox this weekend," it confirmed.

The GosuGamers team got to try Battlefield 6’s single-player campaign demo at the Tokyo Game Show, featuring Dagger 13, a Marine Raider unit leading a city assault with an amphibious tank. The demo kicked off with vehicle-heavy combat, collapsing buildings, and the series’ signature large-scale chaos. In our own words, “The game’s destruction physics really shone” during the demo, which felt like “an impressive adaptation of everything that makes Battlefield’s multiplayer so great: the immense chaos, high-intensity action, and sharp gunplay.”

EA has also revealed Battlefield’s roadmap a few weeks ahead of launch, with Season 1 set to roll out three new modes, two maps, and a festive event before 2025 ends. Kicking off on 28 October, the season brings fast-paced 4v4 battles, large-scale suburban warfare, and a snow-covered holiday update to keep the firefights raging through the year’s end.

Battlefield 6 is the 18th instalment in the franchise, launching on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 10 October, 2025. The game is available for purchase at US$69.99.
