Hogwarts Legacy 2 officially confirmed, as Warner Bros. expands its gaming pipeline

Looks like we'll need another Revelio to find out what Avalanche is actually cooking.

After months of rumours, leaks and speculation about Hogwarts Legacy 2, Warner Bros. Discovery has finally put the sequel on paper. The company directly referenced “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” in its latest shareholder report published last week, confirming that another Hogwarts Legacy game is part of WB Games' upcoming pipeline. Warner Bros. did not give the sequel a release window.

“Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term Studios segment goals,” Warner Bros. Discovery said, while discussing its strategy of focusing investment around four major franchises. “We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels had already called a Hogwarts Legacy successor “one of the biggest priorities” for the company back in 2024, in comments reported by Variety. Warner Bros. has also previously confirmed that the sequel will have some connection to HBO's Harry Potter series. Then-WB Games president David Haddad revealed in 2024 that the games team was coordinating some of Hogwarts Legacy 2's “big-picture storytelling elements” with the upcoming show, although he did not explain how the two would tie together.

It also gives some certainty after months of rumours about when players might actually see the sequel. Hogwarts Legacy 2 was rumoured to appear during June 2026's PlayStation State of Play, but ultimately did not show up.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 multiplayer and other rumours so far

Avalanche Software's recent recruitment has added to the speculation, with several job listings pointing to a multiplayer project currently in development at the studio. The studio's current openings include an Advanced Software Engineer, Gameplay and Lead Designer, Activity. The listings describe work on an online multiplayer RPG and repeatable open-world activities, while previous Avalanche recruitment has also reportedly referenced matchmaking, multiplayer infrastructure, and persistent player data.

That has prompted speculation that multiplayer could be coming to Hogwarts Legacy 2. However, the listings do not name Hogwarts Legacy, and Avalanche has not confirmed whether the multiplayer project is connected to the sequel or something else entirely.

Multiplayer isn't the only feature being talked about. NoobFeed reported in June on claims that Hogwarts Legacy 2 could include Diagon Alley, Quidditch, and seamless travel, although none of those details have been directly confirmed by Avalanche Software.

The studio has also seen some of its Hogwarts Legacy plans change since the first game. Warner Bros. cancelled a planned expansion last year, according to Bloomberg. Avalanche has yet to reveal Hogwarts Legacy 2 or share further details about the sequel.
