The latest entry once again pits players against deadly yokai in a war-torn Japan.
Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA have officially announced during PlayStation’s State of Play that Nioh 3 will launch worldwide on 6 February 2026 for PlayStation 5. A PC version via Steam is also confirmed, though its release date has not yet been revealed.
The reveal marks the long-awaited return of the iconic samurai action RPG series, which has built a loyal following thanks to its punishing combat, rich Japanese mythology, and relentless yokai battles. With Nioh 3, Team NINJA are looking to push the series even further, delivering intense new encounters and deeper freedom in how players approach the battlefield.
The game takes place in a foreboding open world that carries the hallmark tension fans have come to expect from the series. Instead of narrow corridors and limited stages, players will be able to explore vast environments riddled with danger and discovery. Haunted villages, monstrous yokai, and the looming threat of the Crucible ensure that every corner of the map feels like a deadly trial waiting to unfold.
Nioh 3: Master the blade or strike from the shadows
In true Team NINJA fashion, combat remains at the core of the experience. Players can seamlessly switch between Samurai Style, focusing on direct, powerful strikes, and Ninja Style, a faster, technique-driven approach that relies on agility and special abilities. The ability to fluidly alternate between the two gives players more freedom than ever in how they carve through their enemies.
The announcement comes on the back of impressive milestones for the franchise. As of May 2025, the Nioh series has surpassed eight million copies sold worldwide, spanning Nioh, Nioh 2, and their remastered editions.
With its February release date now locked in for PS5, and a Steam version on the horizon, fans won’t have to wait much longer before stepping back into the shadows of war-torn Japan.
