Umamusume sprints out of the gate worldwide, with mobile earnings surging in its first month.
Cygames’ Umamusume: Pretty Derby has taken the global stage by storm, raking in an estimated US$22 million on mobile within just one month of its worldwide launch. According to a gacha ranking report by Gacha Revenue, the popular horse girl game has quickly secured its place among the top-grossing mobile titles. The figures reported are based on sales revenue from iOS and Android only, and are based on estimates from Sensor Tower. Cygames does not provide monthly revenue numbers directly.
The United States leads overseas spending
While the title originated in Japan and saw massive domestic success since its original 2021 release, its global version, launched on 26 June 2025 for Steam, iOS, and Android, has now found a growing audience abroad. As reported by Pocket Gamer, players in the United States have shown particularly strong support. US-based spending made up 65% of all overseas revenue during the game's first 18 days, climbing to 68% by the end of the first month.
The game’s unique concept of training anthropomorphised horse girls, based on real-life racehorses, to compete in races and perform idol concerts has clearly struck a chord with new audiences worldwide.
Since then, it has built up a massive international following, with millions of players logging in to play, and well-known streamers such as Ludwig and Northernlion helping expand its reach.
The global launch hasn’t just fuelled gacha sales, it’s reignited interest in real-world racing legends. Passionate players have begun following the careers of the actual racehorses that inspired their favourite characters. Some fans have gone as far as to visit ranches, donate grass to real horses (resulting in a website crash), or even invest in owning a racehorse themselves.
A second wind for horse racing history
As the player base grows, so does interest in the real horses behind the characters. From Haru Urara to Symboli Rudolf, fans are revisiting racing history through multiple generations of horse girls.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby draws heavily from the rich history of Japanese horse racing. If you’re interested in learning more about the real-life champions who inspired the game’s beloved characters, you can explore them by era here:
