The fastest thing alive is speeding into Fortnite for its next big season.
SEGA has confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog is crossing over into Fortnite, arriving as part of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, “Overdrive”, which launches on 20 August, 2026. The crossover was teased in a 10-second clip posted on the Sonic the Hedgehog social media accounts, with the message: “This new ‘Fortnite’ Zone feels oddly familiar…”
The brief clip showed a Green Hill-inspired zone, with Peely–glowing with a blue hue–sprinting across the map. At the end, Sonic himself, curled into his iconic blue ball, rolled uphill and collected Rings. This suggests potential additions in the future collaboration, including a Green Hill POI and a possible Mythic item that allows players to perform the Sonic Spin Dash.
While that remains the extent of the official information we have regarding the blue blur’s arrival in Fortnite, more details will likely be revealed as we approach Season 4’s launch next week.
What crossovers are coming in Fortnite Overdrive?
Heading into the next Fortnite season, there have been many leaks and much speculation about what content is coming, particularly the collaborations, which is believed to revolve around the concept of Fortnite's “Gaming Legends” cosmetics. That aligns with the confirmation of Sonic the Hedgehog x Fortnite, marking the first time the popular SEGA character has stepped into the battle royale.
Other speculated crossovers include Persona 5, Minecraft and TETRIS. These have not been confirmed by Epic Games, but recent teases on Fortnite’s Discord server has alluded to these franchises potentially making their way into Fortnite. Fans had spotted a new channel called “Hint Transmissions”, with Fortnite’s official bot account posting several “Lobby Hack Codes” (that are now deleted). Immediately, sleuths connected the codes to potential upcoming collaborations, however, what exactly they are for remains unknown.
The codes and their presumed game connections are:
- GottaGoFast–Sonic the Hedgehog
- TakeYourHeart–Persona 5
- SurviveTheNight–Minecraft or Five Nights at Freddy's
- Perfect Order–TETRIS or Geno
Of these crossovers, only Sonic the Hedgehog has been officially announced.
So far, the collaborations for the next season appear incredibly promising and could help Fortnite recover following Season 3, “RUNNERS”, which has not been popular among fans. The season had packed in crossovers with Spider-Man Brand New Day, Masters of the Universe, The Amazing Digital Circus, and more.
