Bethesda reportedly set to launch The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake soon

A remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion could arrive as early as next month.

Bethesda Game Studios is ramping up to release a remake of The Elder Scrolls: IV: Oblivion as soon as next month, if recent reports are to be believed. The project first surfaced in a massive Xbox leak all the way back in 2024, but its existence has gained credibility due to insider NatetheHate claiming that it looks set to launch before June this year.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake reportedly in the works

This week, insider NatetheHate claimed that a remake of Bethesda Game Studios' seminal fantasy-RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is getting close to release. He noted that the game is likely to launch before June this year, which was later corroborated by VGC. In fact, VGC claimed that it would launch even sooner than expected: as soon as next month, in April 2025.

According to VGC, the remake is in development at game developer Virtuos. Virtuos is notably also working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 for Konami, entitled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The remake is set to launch on 28 August, 2025, making this a rather packed year for the developer.

VGC noted that the Oblivion remake – which was previously referred to as a “remaster” in a 2023 Xbox leak – is a full-fledged remake using Unreal Engine 5. Five of its major gameplay systems have been reworked for modern audiences, including stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, the in-game HUD, and hit reaction. The new blocking system is said to be inspired by FromSoftware’s Dark Souls franchise.

If the remake does launch this year, it will provide a much-needed respite for weary fans of The Elder Scrolls franchise, given that they have waited a very long time for a sequel to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. That sequel, known only as The Elder Scrolls 6, was announced back in 2018, and has since shown very few signs of life.
