Street Fighter movie trailer Easter eggs explained
During this week’s World Warrior Tour kickoff in Tokyo, Japan, which sees the cast of Street Fighter go on a globe-trotting marketing campaign for the upcoming film, a new movie trailer was released. The trailer serves to show off more of its main cast of characters, ranging from Jason Momoa’s Blanka to Callina Liang’s Chun-Li.
Here’s a synopsis for the movie, as per the trailer’s YouTube description:
“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
Fans of the Street Fighter fighting game franchise will be pleased to see the many Easter eggs and references scattered throughout this trailer alone. Among others, E. Honda appears in the trailer and executes his torpedo-like Sumo Headbutt move, followed up by his Hundred Hand Slap.
There are also a few other fighting game moves seen in the trailer above, including Ryu’s Hadoken and Ken’s Shoryuken. Besides that, we also get announcer call-outs throughout like “Round 1” and “You win!” and what appears to be a reference to Evil Ryu to end the trailer, with the fighter suddenly sporting red eyes. Dan also appears in his pink gi.
