Top Pokémon TGC and Pokémon VGC players around the world to head to Singapore for Pokémon World Championships 2027.
The Pokémon World Championships is coming to Singapore for the first time ever in 2027, and the annual event bringing together the top competitor players of several Pokémon games will be held in Singapore EXPO from 13-15 August 2027.
This marks the fourth time the Pokémon World Championships is held outside of the United States, with the last overseas location being Yokohama, Japan in 2023.
Pokémon World Championships 2027 location
The location for next year’s World Championships was revealed in a video shown during the closing ceremony of the Pokémon World Championship 2026 just held in San Francisco (30 August), and hints that it would be Singapore became apparent when the Pokémon Solgaleo made its appearance in the video.
Solgaleo is a Psychic/Steel Legendary Pokémon first introduced in the games Pokémon Sun and Moon, and it was recently officially designated as the new symbol of Pokemon Center Singapore because of its sun-like mane (and an uncanny resemblance to the Merlion, the national mascot of Singapore).
Why Singapore?
Considering that the next entries in the classic Pokémon RPG franchise, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, are scheduled for release in 2027, Singapore seems like it is a fitting choice for next year’s Pokémon World Championships.
Based on the trailer of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, the upcoming games are set in a new tropical region made up of multiple islands, with various locations from the trailer drawing inspiration from various parts of Southeast Asia. This makes Singapore an appropriate Southeast Asian backdrop for the biggest Pokémon competitive event of the year, amidst the new games' release.
What to expect in Pokémon World Championships?
The best (and qualified) competitive players of Pokémon Video Game Championships (VGC), the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), and Pokémon GO will turn up in Singapore EXPO in hopes of becoming the next world champion.
Championship Sunday, the grand finals culminating a whole year of competitive play, will reportedly take place in the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
