Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves star in Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only ‘spy-thriller expansion’ Phantom Liberty.

CD Projekt Red has revealed a release date for its upcoming story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty. The ‘spy thriller expansion’ launches on September 26, 2023, starring Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves in a story that follows V’s quest for a cure to their life-ending illness.

Watch the trailer below:

Phantom Liberty will be the only expansion CD Projekt Red releases for its futuristic 2020 open-world game, set before the ending of the main campaign. The expansion adds a new area in Night City for players to explore, albeit one that seems more crime-ridden and filled with hostile enemies compared to the rest of the already-troubled city.

CD Projekt Red describes the expansion as such:

Phantom Liberty is an upcoming spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Return as cyber-enhanced mercenary V and embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the NUSA President. In the dangerous district of Dogtown, you must forge alliances within a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations. Do you have what it takes to survive?

Phantom Liberty embroils V in a tale of espionage that kicks off with the President of the New United States of America crashing into the district of Dogtown and seeking their help. With the promise of a cure to their life-ending illness, V teams up with Solomon Reed (Idris Elba) to become a government secret agent who has to infiltrate Dogtown’s high-security buildings. Gameplay-wise, the expansion also adds a new skill tree, more sidequests and new weapons.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 26, 2023. Check out all the other games Xbox and Bethesda showed off today here.
