Here’s your chance to get a pretty fun looter-shooter for free.

The Epic Games Store has kicked off its yearly Mega Sale by offering discounts on a huge catalogue of games - but you don’t even have to spend money to pick some of them up. The online game store regularly gives away games for free, and this week’s free game is a whopper: Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3 is currently free to keep at the Epic Games Store here, allowing you to add the game to your digital library forever. This only applies to the PC version, and you will need an Epic Games account to download and play it. The game is only free to download until May 26, after which the store will offer another free game as part of its Mega Sale. Whether or not the next game will be as prolific as Borderlands 3 remains to be seen, but don’t miss your shot!

It should be noted that this is the standard, no-frills version of Borderlands 3. You’ll get the main campaign, which you can play alone or with a squad of friends, but you won’t get all the additional paid DLC and expansions that have been released since. The two Season Passes giving you access to all this stuff are also on sale however, as part of the Mega Sale. If you like Borderlands 3 and want more of it, those might be worth picking up.

Borderlands 3 is a bombastic looter-shooter that has players shoot things, level up and earn better and rather creative gear and weapons. In keeping with the franchise’s tone, the game’s story campaign takes players on an adventure where they’re tasked with stopping an insane cult led by two evil twins - with as much tongue-in-cheek humour packed in as possible.

The latest Borderlands spin-off, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, saw players play through a fictional game of Bunkers & Badasses (the in-universe version of Dungeons & Dragons), led by Tiny Tina and her cohorts. While Borderlands 3’s story was fairly mediocre, it was still a ton of fun to play - and definitely worth picking up if you’re a fan of the series so far. The Mega Sale has more games on sale with discounts of up to 75%, in case you’re looking for more games to play.
