TEAM VISION are the first team to qualify for the Playoffs at The International 2026

The biggest favourites to claim the Aegis of Champions this year are also the first team to qualify for the Playoffs.

Eastern European Dota 2 juggernauts TEAM VISION (aka PARIVISION) became the first team to qualify for The International (TI) 2026 Playoffs after they capped off an undefeated run through the Group Stage with a 2-0 sweep over regional rivals Team Spirit in Round 4 on Saturday (15 August).

VISION were pegged as by far the biggest favourites to claim this year's Aegis of Champions ahead of the tournament. While they finished third in last year's TI, it took them some time to play themselves into winning form in the 2025-2026 competitive season.

Following the additions of Evgeniy “Noticed” Ignatenko on the offlane and living legend Clement “Puppey” Ivanov as coach, VISION won DreamLeague Season 29 in May and the Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 last month. And though their surge came too late to earn them a direct invite to TI 2026, VISION were still able to easily secure their spot through the European regional qualifier.

VISION and Spirit rampage through TI 2026 Group Stage ahead of Round 4 showdown

VISION and Spirit both had fiery starts to TI 2026's Swiss-format Group Stage, winning their respective matches in the first three rounds to set up a showdown in Round 4 for the first direct berth to the Playoffs.

Both teams scored victories over Chinese squads in Round 1, with VISION taking a surprising loss to Team Resilience but still winning the series in three games while Spirit soundly swept Xtreme Gaming. Round 2 then saw VISION emerge victorious over defending champions Team Falcons in three games while Spirit continued rolling with another sweep over regional rivals Aurora Gaming.

In Round 3, VISION swept fellow Eastern European favourites BoomBoys (aka BetBoom Team) while Spirit defeated Western European powerhouse Team Liquid in three games.

VISION were the stronger team on paper, but Spirit seem to have once again channeled the strong form they had during their title runs in TI 2021 and TI 2023. However, VISION still looked like they were a level above their opponents in a 2-0 rout as they secured their spot in the main event.

VISION sweep Spirit to become first team to advance to TI 2026 Playoffs

The series opened with both side showcasing their team identities in their respective drafts.

VISION went for strong laning presence and a powerful mid game timing with Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov on Nature's Prophet, Volodymyr “No[o]ne” Minenko on Earth Spirit, Noticed on Timbersaw, Naltakyan “9Class” Edgar on Dark Willow, and Andrey “Dukalis” Kuropatkin on Winter Wyvern. Meanwhile, Spirit opted to take things in the late game with Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk on Drow Ranger, Denis “Larl” Sigitov on Slardar, Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov on Doom, Alexey “Not Me” Kosmynin on Ringmaster, and Aleksandr “rue” Filin on Clockwerk.

True to their team identity, VISION pushed the action early behind early Teleport ganks by Satanic. At the 7-minute mark, Satanic teleported to the bottom lane to score First Blood on Yatoro and quickly take down Spirit's bottom Tier 1 tower. Another huge gank came for Larl on the mid lane four minutes later, which also led to another quick Tier 1 tower takedown.

Those early moves essentially shut down Spirit's plans to safely scale into the late game, all while building up VISION's momentum for their mid game power spike. Despite Spirit's best efforts to delay the game, VISION looked nigh-unstoppable as they secured their first win of the series in 37 minutes and with a lopsided 37-7 kill lead.

Satanic led the way for VISION in game one with a perfect 11-kill, 18-assist performance while No[o]ne pitched in with a clean 10 kills and 11 assists of his own. Noticed also added nine kills and 12 assists against a single death.

Spirit stuck to their guns in game two by picking Drow Ranger for Yatoro once more. To protect their carry, Larl was given Ember Spirit, Collapse had Largo, Not Me was put on Hoodwink, while Rue was on Ringmaster.

VISION countered with a draft centered around a tri-core of Strength melee heroes that could dive the enemy Drow Ranger in teamfights, with Satanic on Lifestealer, No[o]ne on Earth Spirit once more, and Noticed on Doom. 9class' Dark Willow and Dukalis' Enchantress rounded out the lineup with ranged damage and crowd control abilties.

Spirit put up a better fight in game two by getting active early to counter VISION's stronger laning heroes. However, VISION were able to score valuable counter-kills on Larl in multiple ganks that heavily slowed down the progression of Spirit's mid laner. VISION then proceeded to take over the map come the mid game while Spirit repeatedly tried to score pickoffs to give Yatoro more space to farm.

A veritable stalemate then ensued, as both sides postured around map objectives and poked at the other to force a teamfight on their terms. That game-deciding clash came at the 41-minute mark around the top Roshan pit, where VISION outmaneuvered their opponents to isolate Yatoro then mop up the rest of Spirit's heroes. From there, VISION simply continued snowballing until they secured the 2-0 series sweep after 53 minutes of action.

Satanic put up a perfect performance once again to lead his team to the Playoffs, notching a clean seven kills and 12 assists to pace VISION's 28-17 kill lead in game two. No[o]ne also had another excellent showing with Earth Spirit by putting up 11 kills and 14 assists on just one death.

With their victory over Spirit, VISION have earned an extended period of rest before the battle for this year's Aegis of Champions resumes on 20 August. Meanwhile, Spirit still have a second chance to secure a direct berth to the Playoffs and avoid playing in the Elimination Stage. To do that, they need to secure a victory over Nigma Galaxy in the 3-1 bracket in Round 5 of the Group Stage to end the day.

What is The International 2026?

TI 2026 will be this year's iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament, taking place in August in Shanghai, China. As with previous iterations of the tournament, TI 2026 will feature a total of 16 teams that earn their spots in the tournament by receiving direct invites or earning slots through regional qualifiers.

The list of directly-invited teams to TI 2026 include Aurora Gaming, BoomBoys (aka BetBoom Team), Team Falcons, Team Liquid, Iron Wing (aka 1w Team), Xtreme Gaming, and Team Yandex. Meanwhile, the teams that earned their spots through the regional qualifiers include European qualifier winners Team Spirit, TEAM VISION (aka PARIVISION), HULIGANI, and Nigma Galaxy, North American qualifier winner GamerLegion, Southeast Asian qualifier winner OG, South American qualifier winner LGD Gaming, as well as Chinese qualifier winners Vici Gaming and Team Resilience.

TI 2026's main event will be hosted in the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Valve first announced that Shanghai will host TI 2026 during last year's world championship tournament, where Team Falcons claimed the Aegis of Champions after defeating China's Xtreme Gaming in the five-game grand finals.

This will mark the second time that Shanghai will host TI after TI 2019, where Western Europe's OG became the first-ever two-time TI champions after defeating Team Liquid in four games to claim the grand prize of US$15.6 million, out of the US$34.3 million prize pool.

TI 2026 will be split into two phases: the ‘Road to The International’ and ‘The International’ main event. The Road to The International will be a Swiss-style Group Stage from 13 to 16 August, where the 16 teams will be cut down to the final eight that will play in the game's biggest stage from 20 to 23 August in Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center.

TI 2026's prize pool follows that of previous editions, with a US$1.6 million base prize pool that will then be boosted through sales of the TI 2026 Compendium.
