OG fail to qualify for DreamLeague Season 29 in first outing with TORONTOTOKYO

OG have been eliminated by Indonesian team REKONIX in the DreamLeague Season 29 SEA qualifier.

Prominent Dota 2 team OG are out of the Southeast Asian DreamLeague Season 29 Closed Qualifier following a disappointing showing. It marks a brutal start to the team’s mid-season campaign, particularly after replacing offlaner Nikko “Force” Bilocura with The International 10 champion Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek just days ago.

What happened in the DreamLeague Season 29 SEA Closed Qualifier

OG began the Closed Qualifier on a promising note with a 2–0 victory over GLYPH, a mixed stack featuring players like Yi “Emo” Zhou and Nicholas Lim “zeal” Eng Han. However, their run quickly unravelled as they suffered consecutive 0–2 defeats–first against the all-Filipino side Ivory in the upper bracket and then against Indonesia’s REKONIX in the lower bracket. OG were ultimately eliminated in 5th–6th place.

What this loss means for OG

DreamLeague Season 29 is one of the most significant tournaments of the season, serving as a key event for determining invitations to the Dota 2 Esports World Cup, with substantial ESL Pro Tour (EPT) points on the line.

OG currently sit at 10th in the EPT leaderboard, a position that only narrowly secures a potential direct invite to the landmark event. However, having failed to qualify for DreamLeague Season 29, OG will no longer be able to earn additional points from the tournament, leaving their standing vulnerable as other teams can potentially overtake them.

OG have little time to recover

The result is certainly disappointing for fans, especially given the team’s earlier resurgence this season, which included multiple Top 6 finishes in major events. Now, OG are struggling even to assert themselves in the SEA qualifiers. While fans did not anticipate an easy run, the team were certainly expected to perform better against regional stacks.

The situation is further compounded by the recent addition of a high-profile offlaner, with TORONTOTOKYO also taking on drafting responsibilities. The Russian player boasts an impressive track record, including an Aegis of Champions, a Major title, and several podium finishes in recent seasons.

That said, OG still appears to be finding their rhythm following the roster change. They do not have much time to do so, with crucial qualifiers for the Dota 2 Esports World Cup and The International 2026 fast approaching–assuming the team does not receive a direct invite.

Meanwhile, the SEA Closed Qualifier for DreamLeague Season 29 continues today, with IVORY and REKONIX set to face off in the finals for a place at the million-dollar tournament and a chance to join the elite 16-team line-up.
