Vici Gaming notably advanced to the Playoffs despite only earning their spot in the tournament as a substitute.
The Dota 2 action is heating up in PGL Wallachia Season 7 as the tournament's Swiss-format Group Stage concluded on Thursday (12 March) with eight out of the 16 participating teams advancing to the Playoffs. Western Europe's
Team Liquid and Eastern Europe's
Team Spirit lead the pack of Playoff-qualified teams after a perfect run through the Group Stage.
HEROIC,
Aurora Gaming,
Team Yandex,
BetBoom Team,
Vici Gaming (VG), and
Tundra Esports round out the list of Playoff-qualified teams. Meanwhile,
PARIVISION,
Xtreme Gaming (XG),
Natus Vincere (NAVI),
Team Falcons,
OG,
Yellow Submarine,
MOUZ, and
Team Nemesis failed to make it out of the Group Stage.
Here's how all the action in the PGL Wallachia Season 7 Group Stage went down:
Liquid, Spirit cruise through PGL Wallachia Season 7 Group Stage
After stumbling in DreamLeague Season 28 earlier this month, where they only finished third despite a dominant run before the Playoffs, Liquid have bounced back with another strong Group Stage performance in PGL Wallachia Season 7. Liquid kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 victory over BetBoom before scoring back-to-back sweeps over VG and PARIVISION to secure their spot in the Playoffs.
Spirit also finished the Group Stage with a 3-0 record, though they encountered significantly more difficulty compared to Liquid as all three of their matches went to three games. Spirit defeated XG in round one, Falcons in round two, and HEROIC in round three. Spirit's strong start in PGL Wallachia Season 7 should inspire confidence in their new coach, Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara, who began his trial as the team's coach ahead of the tournament. Spirit notably parted with their longtime coach
Ayrat “Silent” Gaziev back in mid-January.
Meanwhile, HEROIC, Aurora, and Yandex qualified for the Playoffs with solid 3-1 records apiece. HEROIC continue their rise in 2026 since the addition of prodigy mid laner Santiago “TaiLung” Gustavo in January with a solid Group Stage run in PGL Wallachia Season 7. The South American squad defeated Yandex and Aurora in the first two rounds before losing to Spirit in round three then locking in their Playoff spot with a 2-1 victory over NAVI.
Aurora and Yandex notably qualified for the Playoffs despite having to play with stand-ins due to visa issues. Aurora are playing with Alik “V-TUNE” Vorobey standing-in for
Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko, earning their spot in the Playoffs with victories over MOUZ, Tundra, and XG despite a round two loss to HEROIC. While this marks the third-straight event this year that Aurora have played without their full roster, the team still managed to win FISSURE Universe: Episode 8 and finish second in DreamLeague Season 28 despite being undermanned. It remains to be seen if Aurora can pull off another strong showing with a stand-in at Wallachia.
Yandex, who are playing with Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin in place of
Evgeniy “Noticed” Ignatenko, shook off a round one loss to HEROIC by scoring three straight victories over MOUZ, Falcons, and PARIVISION to secure a spot in the Playoffs. The Eastern European squad will be looking to bounce back from an abysmal 11th-12th place finish at DreamLeague Season 28–a considerable challenge when playing with a stand-in, but one they have lived up to so far.
Vici Gaming qualify for the Playoffs despite only being a substitute team
China's VG have proven to be the unexpected standout team of the PGL Wallachia Season 7 Group Stage despite having to trudge through all five stages to punch their tickets to the Playoffs.
The team weren't even supposed to be here in the first place, as they only finished second in the tournament's Asian qualifier. But they earned a last-minute call up after Power Rangers encountered visa issues and were forced to pull out. VG didn't squander their opportunity, notably being the only Asian team to make the Playoffs. They defeated OG in round one but suffered back-to-back losses to Liquid and NAVI. Unfazed, VG knocked out reigning The International champions Falcons in round four then defeated fellow Chinese team XG to secure their spot in the Playoffs.
BetBoom were the seventh team to make the Playoffs at Wallachia, a marked improvement from their disappointing showing at DreamLeague Season 28 where they failed to make it out of the Group Stage. BetBoom lost their opening match to Liquid, bounced back by sweeping OG, then got put on the verge of elimination with a loss to XG in round three. The Eastern European squad then scored back-to-back sweeps over their regional rivals in Yellow Submarine and NAVI to advance to the Playoffs.
Tundra, by far the most successful team of the season with three tournament victories so far, claimed the final Playoff spot at Wallachia. With Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko sidelined due to visa issues, Tundra had to play with
David Nicho “Parker” Flores as a stand-in. While Parker has become rather infamous for his shaky history as a teammate, his sheer talent proved pivotal in Tundra's Wallachia Group Stage campaign. The team lost their opening match to NAVI, bounced back with a sweep over Yellow Submarine, then found themselves in danger of an early elimination after losing to Aurora in round three. Tundra bounced back by knocking out OG in round four then outlasted PARIVISION in the final match of the Group Stage to round out the Top 8 at Wallachia.
