Tundra Esports’ sweep over Team Yandex in the BLAST Slam V finals earns the team its fourth consecutive BLAST title.
There is simply something in the BLAST Slam series that fuels
Tundra Esports’s dominance almost every time. Tundra claimed a clean-sweep victory over
Team Yandex in the grand finals of BLAST Slam V, which concluded early on 8 December in Chengdu, China. The win marks their fourth straight BLAST series title.
Tundra's dominance in BLAST events began with a runner-up performance at Slam I in December 2024, in which they lost to
BetBoom Team. However, they began to deliver in every subsequent finale–defeating
Gaimin Gladiators at Slam II (February),
Team Falcons at both Slam III (May) and IV (November), and recently Team Yandex at Slam V.
Entering this iteration, Tundra were heavy favorites, given their long-standing consistency and their Slam IV victory just a month prior. However, doubts emerged following their lackluster performance at PGL Wallachia Season 6 two weeks ago, where they barely made the top half of the Group Stage and were knocked out early after consecutive Playoff losses.
Tundra Esports dominate BLAST Slam V
Despite their stumble in the previous event, Tundra once again proved their strength in the BLAST Slam series.
At Slam V, they topped the Group Stage with a 10–1 record, tying with Falcons for the best result. While Tundra's single map loss was against Falcons, the green team had surprisingly lost to Chinese underdog,
Yakult Brothers.
The Top 2 placement in the Group Stage, rewarded Tundra with a direct spot in the Semifinals of the Playoffs–standing two series away from victory. Their first obstacle was an intimidating
MOUZ, a new powerhouse on the scene who had just won Wallachia Season 6. But Tundra kept up with consistent dominance, securing a convincing 2–0 win to swiftly advance to the grand finals.
Initially, many expected Tundra to face Falcons in the finals, being the two best teams of the event. But Falcons once again fell to an unforeseen upset by Team Yandex in the Semifinals, finishing a relatively lackluster 3rd-4th place at the event. Yandex's performance immediately stirred discussions, as many wondered if we'll see another new powerhouse claim victory.
But ultimately, Tundra showed up as the victorious defending champions. The team pulled off a 3-0 sweep with a 52 minute victory on map one, 49 minute on map two, and 39 minute on the final map. The victory cements their early-season dominance, particularly impressive after having undergone significant roster changes for the new season–welcoming Matthew “Ari” Walker in position 4 and
Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko in position 1.

While Tundra took the championship, Yandex had nothing to be ashamed of in their grand final loss. The fast-rising Eastern European (EEU) organisation, formed only in June this year, had a tumultuous start and went through several roster shuffles. But their new season additions, welcoming former Gaimin Gladiators players Alimzhan “Watson” Islambekov and
Arman “Malady” Orazbayev, along with TI champion and veteran support
Martin “Saksa” Sazdov as stand-in, has proven positive. Yandex’s performance at BLAST Slam V marks their first-ever grand final appearance and their third podium finish.
