After upsetting Team Spirit, Nigma Galaxy become one of the three teams to qualify directly to The International 2026 Playoffs.

Nigma Galaxy have successfully booked a direct berth to The International (TI) 2026 Playoffs, sweeping 
Team Spirit in a stunning 2-0 victory in the final round of the Group Stage. The win propelled Nigma Galaxy to the Group Stage podium as they stand high with a 4-1 win-loss record, joining 
TEAM VISION and 
Team Liquid as the three squads to directly enter the Playoffs.
Nigma Galaxy have soared far above expectations with their Group Stage performance, particularly with this latest upset victory over two-time TI champions Spirit. It is a stunning turnaround following a disastrous 2025–2026 competitive season, during which their best results came largely from Tier 2 events.
More recently, however, the team found a glimmer of hope with a Top 8 finish at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2026 last month, and they have continued to carry that promising form into this year’s world championship tournament.
The 
Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi-led team experienced the recent resurgence after 
Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan returned to the roster to take up the carry role, while 
Artem “Lorenof” Melnick joined in the mid lane–a duo that have evidently revitalised the squad.
Nigma Galaxy could now replicate their unlikely run at TI 2025, where they secured an unexpected Top 6 finish, or perhaps even go deeper into the championship. With their Playoffs spot secured, the team are guaranteed at least a Top 8 finish. Both 
Maroun “GH” Merhej and SumaiL are eyeing their second TI titles, while the rest of the squad will be chasing their first Aegis of Champions.
A remarkable run for Nigma Galaxy at TI 2026 so far
Heading into TI 2026, Nigma Galaxy were labeled a dark horse. The team had shown flashes of potential in the past, but lacked the credentials to be considered among the top contenders. Nevertheless, many still had faith in the squad, particularly after their commendable run at the previous TI. The presence of several star players on the roster only gave supporters more reason to believe.
So far at TI 2026, Nigma Galaxy have not disappointed. Instead, they have delighted their supporters with an impressive Group Stage performance. The team initially stumbled with a 0-2 loss to 
Iron Wing (aka 1win), but quickly recovered in their subsequent series against fellow fan-favourites 
OG, claiming a convincing 2-0 victory.
The following day, Nigma Galaxy continued their winning streak with back-to-back victories over 
LGD Gaming and 
Vici Gaming. Both series ended in 2-0 sweeps, although the second map against LGD was a strenuous battle that saw Nigma pull off a 24K comeback to secure the win.
Their run culminated in a 4-1 record, with Nigma Galaxy capping off an impressive Group Stage campaign with a statement victory over Team Spirit.
The CIS powerhouse also enjoyed a strong run, despite stumbling towards the end. Team Spirit kicked off the first day with a smooth 2-0 victory over 
Xtreme Gaming. The following day, they picked up two more wins against 
Aurora Gaming and Team Liquid, with the latter series going the distance to a third map.
Team Spirit appeared to be on course for a near-flawless Group Stage run until they faced TEAM VISION in a battle for the top spot, where they suffered a heavy 0-2 defeat. The team subsequently missed out on a place on the Group Stage podium after suffering an upset against Nigma Galaxy, though they will have the chance to make Playoffs still through the Elimination Round.
Nigma Galaxy pulls off a statement upset against Team Spirit
The matchup between Nigma Galaxy and Team Spirit was an explosive affair, but Nigma showcased the stronger synergy, much to everyone’s surprise.
In the opening game, Nigma Galaxy drafted several signature picks, with Clinkz for SumaiL, Ember Spirit for Lorenof, Timbersaw for 
Cedric “Davai Lama” Deckmyn, Winter Wyvern for GH, and meta favourite Hoodwink for Omar “OmaR” Moughrabi.
Spirit also opted for their go-to heroes, with Nature’s Prophet for Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk, Lina for 
Denis “Larl” Sigitov, Doom for Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, Windranger for not me, and Clockwerk for Aleksandr “rue” Filin.
The game got off to an aggressive start from both sides, with Larl’s Lina securing a killing spree by the 11-minute mark. There were back-to-back early skirmishes which packed kills for both sides, but Spirit found a slight edge and led in gold advantage, spearheaded by Yatoro’s Nature’s Prophet.
Around the 27-minute mark, Spirit’s attack near Nigma’s Tier 2 tower was derailed by GH’s timely Winter’s Curse, catching three Spirit players and setting up a perfect Bushwhack that led to three quick kills. The engagement helped Nigma Galaxy close the net worth gap.
Ten minutes later, following a series of pick-offs across the map, a lengthy fight broke out, with both teams trading kills before it ultimately favoured Nigma Galaxy. Spirit did not slow down, continuing to pressure their opponents, and moments later managed to burst Lorenof’s Ember Spirit and eliminate him from the map. However, a simple buyback from the Ember allowed Nigma to turn the tides and take four lives from the enemy. This led to a quick Aegis pick-up, and Nigma wasted no time marching into the enemy high ground, catching Larl’s Lina before his teammates could respawn. They managed to take down one lane of barracks before Spirit mounted a costly defence that forced them to retreat.
With their backs against the wall, Spirit began grouping up to find pick-offs, even catching SumaiL’s Clinkz on one occasion, but Nigma maintained pressure across the map to hinder their opponents’ movements.
During one Roshan fight, Spirit circled around the pit to catch Nigma off guard. A well-positioned Davai on Timbersaw absorbed the ambush. Although he eventually fell, it was a worthy sacrifice, creating enough space for the rest of Nigma to fire back at Spirit, claiming three kills and an Aegis afterwards.
The game dragged on, with Spirit eventually winning a teamfight, but Nigma maintained a steady pace. The team would stick as five sticking as soon as everyone was ready and confidently initiated a fight inside Spirit’s base. A beautiful combination of Winter’s Curse from GH, clutch Force Staff saves, and Lorenof’s Ember Spirit weaving in and out of the fight completely crushed Spirit’s defence and earned Nigma their first game victory.
The second game featured similar back-and-forth action, with Nigma Galaxy ultimately getting the better of the late game, despite that being an area in which Spirit are traditionally very strong.
Nigma Galaxy picked up Nature’s Prophet for SumaiL and Clockwerk for Omar this time around, pairing them once again with Lorenof’s Ember Spirit and adding a strong sustain duo of Dazzle for GH and Largo for Davai.
Meanwhile, Spirit opted for Lone Druid for Yatoro, Axe for Collapse, Invoker for Larl, Hoodwink for rue, and Dark Willow for not_me.
The laning stage of the second map favoured Nigma Galaxy, with SumaiL’s Nature’s Prophet securing an early killing spree by the five-minute mark. Nigma also successfully contested the Wisdom Rune at seven minutes, claiming two kills, including one on Yatoro’s Lone Druid.
Spirit managed to fight back once Collapse’s Axe obtained his Blink Dagger, allowing him to roam the map and burst isolated enemies with support from Larl’s Invoker Sun Strike and a long-range Sharpshooter from rue’s Hoodwink. +However, Nigma often stuck together, making isolated pick-offs difficult for Spirit.
Once Lorenof’s Ember Spirit reached his power spike, the hero became a major nuisance in engagements. The team also hunted down Yatoro’s Spirit Bear whenever possible, hindering Spirit’s ability to fight effectively.
Around the 42-minute mark, a full-blown fight broke out in Spirit’s triangle. Lorenof attempted to break into the backlines, but Spirit’s careful positioning allowed them to kite the Ember Spirit. This gave Yatoro an opportunity to send his Spirit Bear after SumaiL on the side. Although GH provided heals and a timely Grave, it was not enough to save the Nature’s Prophet, who was eventually brought down. This swung the gold lead significantly in Spirit’s favour, and the Spirit Bear immediately rushed to Nigma's base to take down two lanes of barracks.
With the game becoming more evenly balanced, both teams adopted a cautious approach. Spirit lingered around their base, sending Yatoro’s Spirit Bear out to make plays across the map, but Nigma quickly located and eliminated it. This opened an opportunity for Nigma to claim an Aegis, allowing them to finally break through Spirit’s base.
As the game entered the super late stage, Spirit gained the slight upper hand in both net worth and objectives. However, Nigma continued to hold their ground in skirmishes, largely aided by the overwhelming buffs and healing provided by Largo and Dazzle.
By the 55-minute mark, Nigma had once again secured an Aegis and initiated a game-winning fight. Lorenof dived into the backlines and utilised his nine Remnants, while SumaiL was able to stand toe-to-toe with the Spirit Bear and anyone who came close. Four Spirit heroes fell, allowing Nigma to begin clearing the enemy base.
As the game entered the 60-minute mark, Spirit desperately defended their base. During the prolonged fight, they managed to pick up several kills, but Nigma expended their buybacks to maintain pressure on the Ancient. SumaiL purchased a last-minute Divine Rapier, which arrived just in time for him to pummel the Ancient and close out the series.
What is The International 2026?
TI 2026 will be this year's iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament, taking place in August in Shanghai, China. As with previous iterations of the tournament, TI 2026 will feature a total of 16 teams that earn their spots in the tournament by receiving direct invites or earning slots through regional qualifiers.

GamerLegion, Southeast Asian qualifier winner 
OG, South American qualifier winner 
LGD Gaming, as well as Chinese qualifier winners 
Vici Gaming and 
Team Resilience.
TI 2026's main event will be hosted in the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Valve first announced that Shanghai will host TI 2026 during last year's world championship tournament, where Team Falcons claimed the Aegis of Champions after defeating China's Xtreme Gaming in the five-game grand finals.
This will mark the second time that Shanghai will host TI after TI 2019, where Western Europe's OG became the first-ever two-time TI champions after defeating Team Liquid in four games to claim the grand prize of US$15.6 million, out of the US$34.3 million prize pool.
TI 2026 will be split into two phases: the ‘Road to The International’ and ‘The International’ main event. The Road to The International will be a Swiss-style Group Stage from 13 to 16 August, where the 16 teams will be cut down to the final eight that will play in the game's biggest stage from 20 to 23 August in Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center.
TI 2026's prize pool follows that of previous editions, with a US$1.6 million base prize pool that will then be boosted through sales of the TI 2026 Compendium.
