Iron Wing's redemption run continues as they break into the final eight of The International 2026.
European Dota 2 powerhouse 
Iron Wing (aka 1w Team) have qualified for The International (TI) 2026 Playoffs after crushing underdogs 
GamerLegion, 2-0, in the Elimination Round on Sunday (16 August).
The team join the final eight alongside Group Stage leaders 
TEAM VISION, 
Nigma Galaxy, and 
Team Liquid, as well as fellow Elimination Round winners 
Team Falcons, 
BoomBoys, and 
Team Spirit.
The matchup ended in an emphatic victory for Iron Wing, although the result was largely expected given the gap in stature between the two teams. Iron Wing had cruised through the first half of the 2025–2026 competitive season, bagging four trophies, and despite a drastic dip in form in recent months, the team were still heavily favoured against North America's GamerLegion.
For the underdogs, simply surviving to the Elimination Round was an achievement in itself, having clawed their way out of the Group Stage's red zone and finished above stronger teams like 
Xtreme Gaming and 
OG. With this elimination, GamerLegion exit TI 2026 in 9th–13th place, sharing the placement with 
Aurora Gaming and 
Vici Gaming.
A redeeming run for Iron Wing at The International 2026
Heading into TI 2026, there were substantial question marks surrounding Iron Wing's form. The former 
Tundra Esports roster boasts incredible talent, spearheaded by two-time TI champion 
Neta “33” Shapira. The team had shown ruthless dominance earlier this year by bagging four Tier 1 tournament wins–a record that remains unmatched by any other team this year.
However, their form in recent months had been a wreck, with the team failing to even make the top half at several events. This raised doubts over whether they could finally deliver on the big stage, but their run so far has leaned towards the positive.
During the Group Stage, Iron Wing got off to a shaky start with a sweep victory against Nigma Galaxy, followed by a close defeat to BoomBoys. Notably, they are the only team to have defeated Nigma Galaxy so far, with the latter going on to claim a podium finish in the group and advance directly to the Playoffs.
The following day, Iron Wing recovered with a 2-1 series victory over defending champions Team Falcons, but dropped another point in an intense series against Team Liquid, which also went the distance. Iron Wing wrapped up their middling Group Stage campaign with a 2-1 victory over favourites 
Team Yandex, placing them high enough in the standings to choose their Elimination Round opponent. Unsurprisingly, Iron Wing opted for the most obvious choice in GamerLegion, the least likely team to block their path to the Playoffs.
GamerLegion, on the other hand, endured a gruelling Group Stage campaign, losing their opening series to Aurora Gaming before pulling off a stunning upset against Xtreme Gaming. The team then edged closer to the elimination zone with defeats to Vici Gaming and Team Falcons, although they notably managed to take a map off each opponent. They earned a brief reprieve after beating OG 2-0, narrowly avoiding elimination and securing a place in the Elimination Round, only to fall to Iron Wing the following day.
What is The International 2026?
TI 2026 will be this year's iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament, taking place in August in Shanghai, China. As with previous iterations of the tournament, TI 2026 will feature a total of 16 teams that earn their spots in the tournament by receiving direct invites or earning slots through regional qualifiers.

Team Falcons, 
Team Liquid, Iron Wing (aka 1w Team), 
Xtreme Gaming, and 
Team Yandex. Meanwhile, the teams that earned their spots through the regional qualifiers include European qualifier winners 
Team Spirit, TEAM VISION (aka PARIVISION), 
HULIGANI, and 
Nigma Galaxy, North American qualifier winner 
GamerLegion, Southeast Asian qualifier winner 
OG, South American qualifier winner 
LGD Gaming, as well as Chinese qualifier winners 
Vici Gaming and 
Team Resilience.
TI 2026's main event will be hosted in the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Valve first announced that Shanghai will host TI 2026 during last year's world championship tournament, where Team Falcons claimed the Aegis of Champions after defeating China's Xtreme Gaming in the five-game grand finals.
This will mark the second time that Shanghai will host TI after TI 2019, where Western Europe's OG became the first-ever two-time TI champions after defeating Team Liquid in four games to claim the grand prize of US$15.6 million, out of the US$34.3 million prize pool.
TI 2026 will be split into two phases: the ‘Road to The International’ and ‘The International’ main event. The Road to The International will be a Swiss-style Group Stage from 13 to 16 August, where the 16 teams will be cut down to the final eight that will play in the game's biggest stage from 20 to 23 August in Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center.
TI 2026's prize pool follows that of previous editions, with a US$1.6 million base prize pool that will then be boosted through sales of the TI 2026 Compendium.
